This started a few months back whilst driving along I noticed the beeping noise the car makes when reverse is selected, was randomly beeping and coming up on the dash that I was in reverse. Only for a couple of seconds and I definitely wasn't actually in reverse! Also I noticed then the boot light would start flashing, when it was shut. Running wise it wasn't running any different till a couple of weeks later when it started playing up and not starting. HT leads being replaced sorted it and it also stopped doing the reverse notice and boot light, for 3 months at least! It's started doing it again! It's only when I'm breaking or indicating I begrudge taking it to the garage again after last time of basically telling me it's nothing! Any ideas please???

Hi, and welcome, :)
sounds very much like a poor earth / ground connection , #presumably near the tail lights;)

look at one of the many threads in Punto 2?b section on cleaning connection to the rear lights, (y)

Finally found my post!! Lol To cut a long story short it's not an earthing problem, garage suspected it was something under the gear stick as when it goes to do it's random beeping noise you can hear a very slight click under the gear stick. He said its some kind of lever but he wasn't entirely sure it was that as he had never done it before and the part would need to be brought from fiat. I left it a bit longer as it wasn't making any difference to the running of the car but now I can feel something is up I've never drove a manual car but I swear i feel it struggling to change gear when it's doing the stupid beeping noise ? Anyone heard of a lever/button under the gear stick problem?!?! Garage actually isn't a con shop and he doesn't want to charge me for this lever when it might not even be it, hoping I can find out if it's a common problem ?
