Hi guys,

Just looking for a bit of Fiat related help – I've got a Mark 2 Punto (Y Reg) and I'm having a bit of an audio problem. Basically I started off with the original fitted radio but switched to a ten CD multichanger before moving onto an MP3 CD player. Both, for the record, were from Argos and were installed by Toad.

Basically I've now bought myself a nice shiny new Creative Zen MP3 player and want to hook it up to my car and the best way (and cheapest) I've found of doing this is by switching back to my original tape player and buying one of those data tapes so I can play through there.

The problem is that during one of the installations the Toad guy seems to have neatly chopped off one of the plugs which should fit into the back of the radio – while the power and speakers plugs are still there, the plug which leads to the car's computer (to sort out the security code, I am told) has been chopped and as a result it won't work.

Fiat have told me that they can't order the part (or a replacement wiring loom) however if I get one of these plugs – a standard ISO plug by all accounts – and take it in to them, they will fit it for around £30. The thing is, I have £40 in Argos' vouchers and could buy myself a fairly decent tape player for that.

What would you guys suggest? (a) Get the part and take it to Fiat (b) buy a new cheapish tape player or (c) something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you not got to a scrap yard and remove the plug you need from any punto? May cost you nothing. Just a little bit of fuel and a bit of fresh air.

how about got to the scrappy and chop of the right bit then connect it to the existing wires for a couple of quid max?!

from my son................
His mp3 player stopped working, the audi guys reckon the pull off head unit is knackered, thats why he went for a zen player. He also says, the audio guys have said it will cost £30 to re fit the fiat radio, AFTER he supplies the plug bit that is missing, so if he gets the plug bit from a scap yard, is it easy to fit the wires together?

If he gets some connectors from an audio shop he can crimp the wires together and everything will be ok.

Got a picture of the hole this plug goes in and the snipped off wire?

You should remove the toad guys nuts, its just not on doing stuff like that.

I will see if I can get a pic tonight, he is at work at the moment...........

Go back to toad and tell them to fix it! iso connectors should never ever ever ever be choped off (an adaptor should be used!!!)

if it only pluged in the the origonal HU then why did he chop it off he could have just left it unplugged! (there are to many fools playing with tools!)

The wires will already be coloured, plus the plug you get out of a donor car will also have coloured wires off it, so just connect the same colours to each other.

Simple.
