Morris Leslie Auctions, Errol PH2 7TB have listed an apparently unmolested 1999(V) Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo. Said to have a full history and a warrantied 50,000 miles, the sales estimate is £5.5 - £6.5k. Due to be sold 17 August.
I have A Sprint blu 20vt example for over ten years now & spent a small fortune on it. Fiats fastest modern car, the 69 Abarth 2000 was faster at 171 mph but never seen them on the road. It pains me to say it, because the Coupe is a Fiat people tend not spend big money on them. Only business collectors may invest for the future purely as a money maker.
Most enthusiasts like myself will pay decent money, but large sums rarely change hands.
But that's got nothing to do why this Coop did not sell. Your average man on the street looking for a potential classic or something a bit different aint going to buy a Fiat. I mean you could argue the fact that some rusty barn finds sell for silly money including the likes of 80's Fords. The Coop will not gain that accolade. There is a small fraternity of us Coopsters who are in the know about our beasties. They are not all that easy to work on & you need to spend a bit of money keeping them well serviced & checked, they need regular maintenance. The lack of specialist garages is a pain as well. Some garages will not touch them & some young mechanics don't even know what they are..
In saying all that, they are hoot to drive, those in the know will be aware of their party trick......
