 Haha back onto this one. Its all well and good until you hit a corner. The Tractor will fall ass over tit whilst the GP Schumi glides round with 2 fingers out the window :p

:ROFLMAO:

No. All I'm saying is the evidence suggests that 2.4 engine failure is rare, and limited to engines that have been significantly tuned.

It is that way indeed, through Forum research only a few of these so called Abarth engine failures have actually been reported and I know for sure that all the incidents that have been reported are all down to a combined cycle of abuse and negligent maintenance by all the passed down owners, simples :D

Thanks for the info guys, the car did indeed go down to be remapped and was successful. Pickup was improved and stormed along at spa italia this year.Unsure of the figures yet but will keep you all informed once been on the rollers.

The first 2.4 coupe in the uk,manual gear box also.

I did massive research on tuning cars. Diesels are not fun and easy around town. Anything else and you wanna go faster... Buy a faster car or prepare to bend over and let your bank balance rape you for £10's of 0000's

Oh not again..........yes my jtd has coilovers on which makes it go round corners now nearly if not as quick as a Schumi GP. No i did not get assraped by doing it. i just found the saving on insurance, fuel and tax for a year more than paid for the suspenders and remap:)

i have to agree with that aswell? i hav'nt been on here long but i certainly hav'nt seen or heard of common engine faults resulting in major faliure? and there were none with my 2.0 marea with had a similar engine? i think constant abuse probably plays a big part? a well serviced and looked after engine should go on for miles and miles:)

Absolutely mate (y) and that is the moral of the story really.

I will be following your project with a huge envied desire... believe me

It's about time I posted on this as Coupedummy asked the original question on my behalf, thanks Reuben (y)

Ok so what we have done is transplant a standard 2.4 Stilo engine into a 2.0ltr VIS Fiat Coupe, it's pretty much a direct fit with no major issues other then the mapping. This was easily sorted by Fc performance down in Bristol, Leighton had the car for less then a week, all went well with no issues other then a slight flat spot at 4k rpm but this isn't unusual for these or the 2.0ltr engines as the VIS system comes into play at those revs.

The first dyno run showed 174 bhp at the wheels but this was only to 6k rpm, the car will be back later this year to resolve that flat spot and have a final check and power run to 7k rpm. We built this one for the low down torque that the 2.4 offers over the standard Coupe engine, there's not loads of extra top end bhp but to be honest the thing flies in all gears and we've kept the Coupe 5sp gearbox and junked the Selespeed to save on loads of hassles with the conversion.

I've enjoyed reading this thread and the comments on the strength of the Stilo engine, from my experience of these engines they're about as strong as the owners wallet, if the servicing is kept up to date and the oil and filter are changed every 6k'ish there's no reason why one of these engines should fail. The most common issue I've seen is bottom end failure but seeing that the 2.4 burns oil if it's not topped up on a regular basis it will knock a shell out, stands to reason.

We have had experience of turbo charging a 2.4 for a customers car which does make a fantastic power plant for the Coupe, on the Fccuk forum there's a chap with a 2.5 who's trying to reach 600bhp funds willing, to date he's already spent 15k on his engine and its not finished yet! Once done I would imagine it'll be the fastest Coupe in the UK for sure.

Cool project, funny I'd rather go the other way and put a Coupe engine in my Stilo given the choice

We have been left with a nice 3 door Stilo shell so the plan is to fit a standard Coupe 20vt engine in this later this year including a Brembo conversion and the Visco drive to help get the power down, it should go like stink :D

Keep us posted on the project and if poss post us some pics on this Forum (y)

I'd be VERY interested in this! Do you guys forsee any major problems? My main concerns are engine mounts, ECU, gearbox and the need for custom drive shafts. I'm wondering how much hassle all that will actually be!

If you use the stock 20vt gearbox all the drive train will match up to the existing front suspension struts, this has only been roughly offered up while the car was on the ramp but it all looks good. As for the mounts, the only one that needs adapting is the N/S gearbox, the Stilo hangs where as the Coupe G/box is under slung, again this isn't too much trouble to resolve, it's just simple fabrication, the other mounts are a direct fit which does make life very easy when you're doing a conversion like this :)

The aresache part of a conversion like this is matching the wiring, some major head scratching will be needed if you wanted to use the Selespeed as the stock Stilo ecu does far more then just run the engine, if a manual model was used it should be a case of matching a few wires.

I've only spent a few hours looking at the Stilo as our minds were on getting the Coupe finished ready for the Spa weekend, this will happen so there will be another thread on this in the future.

Excellent, thanks for that. I'll stay posted to see how it works out :).

I have no interest in the sillyspeed gearbox, manual all the way ;). I'm deff no auto-spark though so wiring could be a problem .

Thanks again for the info, this has been in my head for a very long time but I thought it would be much more hassle!

Sorry i have only just seen this. I meant if you want to tune NA engines then you really need to throw a lot of money at them. Bolt ons, off the shelf and remaps dont really give you any vfm.

Hmm do you fancy scrapping the Stilo shell and converting my Schumacher instead? PM me if interested.

I do have some pictures so I'll post these later, also thanks for the offer with letting us flash your ECU, at the time I thought we might have trouble mapping this but it all worked out fine :)

No worries (y) i would be more than willing to help this project as it is unique and is also making me really excited :D
