It's about time I posted on this as Coupedummy asked the original question on my behalf, thanks Reuben
Ok so what we have done is transplant a standard 2.4 Stilo engine into a 2.0ltr VIS Fiat Coupe, it's pretty much a direct fit with no major issues other then the mapping. This was easily sorted by
Fc performance down in Bristol, Leighton had the car for less then a week, all went well with no issues other then a slight flat spot at 4k rpm but this isn't unusual for these or the 2.0ltr engines as the VIS system comes into play at those revs.
The first dyno run showed 174 bhp at the wheels but this was only to 6k rpm, the car will be back later this year to resolve that flat spot and have a final check and power run to 7k rpm. We built this one for the low down torque that the 2.4 offers over the standard Coupe engine, there's not loads of extra top end bhp but to be honest the thing flies in all gears and we've kept the Coupe 5sp gearbox and junked the Selespeed to save on loads of hassles with the conversion.
I've enjoyed reading this thread and the comments on the strength of the Stilo engine, from my experience of these engines they're about as strong as the owners wallet, if the servicing is kept up to date and the oil and filter are changed every 6k'ish there's no reason why one of these engines should fail. The most common issue I've seen is bottom end failure but seeing that the 2.4 burns oil if it's not topped up on a regular basis it will knock a shell out, stands to reason.
We have had experience of turbo charging a 2.4 for a customers car which does make a fantastic power plant for the Coupe, on the Fccuk forum there's a chap with a 2.5 who's trying to reach 600bhp funds willing, to date he's already spent 15k on his engine and its not finished yet! Once done I would imagine it'll be the fastest Coupe in the UK for sure.
So there you have it, the UK's first 2.4 n/a Fiat Coupe built by
