Technical Armrest Cubby

My armrest cubby from as way back as I can remember would at times give some resistance to open. However, now it seems whatever that crawled up in there and fooled around has died and the cubby refuses to open. It budges by a centimetre (I can feel that the magnetic fastener has released) but it seems that the problem is in the hinge. It feels stiff as a board and I feel if I jar it hard enough it will break, I don't want it to break.

Has anyone faced this problem or has a solution?

push the cloth part a little bit to the front, you'll be able to see the top of the hinge, maybe something is stuck there.

I know this may sound funny but is there a bottle in the holder underneath? Sometimes if I have a bottle such as a water bottle (big blue waters) it won't open properly....normally take out bottle to access. Bit silly if you ask me

You are absolutely right. I do have a big bottle (Blue Waters) that is slightly preventing it from closing. Here was I thinking that it was a design defect when it is designed that the cubby would not open when the armrest is up. This had me worried for like 2wks now, thanks.
