ok so i went and got my alloys today 15", 195/55 15R 85V. are these simply too big for my car. they are hitting wheel archs when going over large bumps. im thinking of taking off the wheel arch covers. will this help.

thanks

ok, went to the garage, they only suggested maybe spring spacers. any body have any ideas about these ?
thanks

never heard of spring spacers myself but what car are they going on as that doesnt seem to be an off size of tyre what about the alloys what are the fittings of the wheels maybe the offset is wrong and they mean to place spacers in between ?

edit: if its for the mk2b punto in your album the correct tyre size should be 195/50 15 but that the 195/55 15 should make that much of a difference on it so could only guess the offset is wrong

so if the offset is wrong is it just a case of spacers for the alloys ?

well, yes, you may need longer wheel studs aswell depending.

tbh, if the wheel is hitting the spring, i wonder just how far the offset is out. normally spacers are only required to stop the wheels scrubbing on lock or to clear track rod ends etc

how much is the car lowered by?

it doesnt sound like a tyre profile or alloy size that would cause particular problems on standard or slightly lowered suspension tbh, as ming says, lower profile tyres and spacers would probably cure it if the offset is wrong.

im guessing its not hitting the spring, i misread the earlier post about spring spacers, lol, its just normal spacers that push the rim away from a spring and a mechanics given them a tweaked name.

the xars not lowered, just the 195 /55 tyres are 5mm to thick on the corners. but i went to the motac down the road and bought a set of rubber things, dont know what their called that you put between coils on the springs so when you turn sharp they cant fully depress. seems to do the trick
thanks
