Tuning Are induction with a cold air feed better than a sports panal filter?

Ive just read this;

Smaller engined cars can actually loose power when an induction kit instead of an sports airfilter is fitted.
It can be challending to deliver COLD air to the engine as the temperature rises under the bonnet . . .
. . . so to summarize, if you have a large engined car, fit an induction kit with an cold air feed. If you have a small engined car or one with little power in the low rec band, fit a direct replacemtn sport panel air filter



???????? im about to buy an induction kit but afta finding this article im not too sure now if it would be better to simply upgrade the panal filter instead???

This is for my 1.1 sporting, so its a small engined car, but its nippy as hell....hmmm cinquecento btw

Induction kits often leave the air filter sucking in hot air, it's not so much a problem with large engines rather that engine bays are getting more cramped & getting a feed of cool air to a large bulky filter is hard. If you just get a cone filter and stick it on top of the throttle body you'll most likely lose power by sucking in hot air & also the air filter is to close to the throttle butterfly.

The best idea if you're not going for a GSR induction kit is to get a decent cone filter down in the space in front of the gearbox & take it up to the TB with as little sharp bends & quick changes in hose diameter as possible.

Is there a higher risk of getting the cone filter wet there though? and how much owuld i be looking at to get the materials for it there is its ok to?
