I'm looking to start an apprenticeship next year.

I'm coming up on 24, sitting my theory test in January and been collecting my own tools.

I've got experience of servicing, changing brakes, exhausts, diagnosing faults and basic engine repairs.

Anyone have any advice on how I would go about getting on a course.

FIAT dealer would be good.:)

i started at record rss on an nvq level 2 admin, then prgressed to nvq level 3.

just over 3 years later and im spares manager, the olffice based co-ordinator for the scotland area manager (y), and administration planner :p

work your way up from the bottom.

managing director for me sometime (y)

ive just started a mechanical engineering apprenticeship this year.

im sure i was told apprenticeships were for 16 to 22 yearolds only? bad luck if thats correct./

and yes, its peanuts the 1st year  :p

best thing would be to pop into connexions and ask what you could get - our local office was very helpful, sent me job adverts etc.

oh, if your too old for them, then the local employment office?

Your a bit late to start now you really should of done it in the summer when most firms recruit. My Apprentaship was 5 years and I agree the pay is poor but you are pretty much sorted for work for life. I've seen an apprentice who was 29, sometimes firms like older apprentices as they have more life experience regarding work.

if you walk in the door and see this bloke:

commence rapid foot to nuts interfacing.........

in 2004 the apprenticeship programme was extended to include 14-16 year olds and people over 25, however there are a limited number of apprenticeships that accept people aged 25+, many require you to be aged 22 or younger when you start.
