General Anyone that is able to fix my door handle?

Hi all.
My door handle has been broken for quite some time now and I think it's about time I got it fixed! As I am useless with cars and I don't know anyone that knows what they are doing, I was wondering if there was anyone local to me (essex) that is able to do it for some money if I buy the repair kit? Preferably someone that's done it before and not too far from me so I can drive to you.

Failing any luck on your original request, you could always try a mobile mechanic. Their rates are generally much cheaper than garages because of course they don't have the overheads of a premises. As usual though, if you do have to go down that route, do some research first and find one with good reviews/recommendations.

I was assuming by my last post that the OP's car is now out of warranty but you know what they say about assume, makes an ass out of u and me.

Of course if the car is only a couple of years old or in the third year warranty period (obviously must have purchased/transferred 3rd year cover if second owner), then the handle can obviously be replaced under warranty.

It is out of warranty! It's an 08 plate. I have tried my local garage and they have told me they would need to replace the whole handle and would have to get the part from fiat. They told me to go to fiat their self as they would probably charge less than the garage. Went to fiat and they said it would be £90 just to look at it and see what the problem is!! If only i knew what I was doing, would be able to fix it for less than £30!

Just had a look at the guide and I don't think I'll be able to do it! Will have to just find a local garage that can do it.

I'd buy the kit and take it to a few indies for a quote. In the past, I've also so found panel shops to be helpful with quick repairs like that.

When you say, your door handle is broken - what do you mean precisely? Is the door handle hanging off or is the front hinge broken?
If it's the front hinge pivot point then Fiat repair kits are available on Fleabay at about £12.50 each. A door trim removal tool can be found on Amazon for about £6-7. Total cost of repair = £30 to £31!
Even if the car is out of warranty you could try your local Fiat dealer & ask them to ask Fiat UK for a goodwill gesture on their part. I did this with Fiat Abingdon (sorry, too far for you) and they quoted me £106 for just one handle! Needless to say, I declined their offer & did both doors for £31.
New Fiat door handles are about £76 from a Fiat dealer & £47 to £48 on ebay. Hope this helps?

TR6man, hi and welcome to the forum.

I think you'll find she means the hinge is broken. That is almost exclusively what happens to the door handle. It is a well known problem that affects many 500's, a previous one of mine included. If you bring up the popular search engine and type in Fiat 500 door hinge broken, you'll find umpteen threads on this forum that explains entirely what the score is.

As for sophiec fixing it herself, I think you'll find she has already intimated it is a no goer for her and to be honest, it can be a pain the preverbial for some people to do. Better then that she finds someone other than a dealer to do the job and pay a lot less. Part can generally be had for about 12 quid as you are already aware.
