Technical Anyone know how to turn hill holder off?

"Hill-holder works best for those who are inexperienced with manual shift techniques, or in situations with heavy traffic in steep hilly conditions"......enough said :D

....mine doesn't have it, but then I don't make it a habit of rolling back on a hill....clutch at bite......give it the beans lol

Has anyone found a way to turn off the hill holder system? I love everything about my Bravo except this annoying "feature" that won't let me coast the way I want to when parking in a slight incline (which I, by the way, do quite regularly and waiting 3 seconds for the car to start rolling everytime I want to roll back slightly is driving me nuts) - I absolutely hate the thing.

Take it out of 1st gear and into reverse if you're going backwards downhill...

It's part of the ABS system I believe, and could possibly be deactivate able with a registered version of fiatecuscan if the Bravo ABS ecu is fully supported.

I know with the Stilo you can deactivate the ABS completely or just the ASR etc with fiatecuscan so I can't see why you can't do it with hill holder possibly.

Hill-holder, like the EBD, is not a part of the safety system that you can disable, I'm afraid. The ASR switch is only there for removing the traction control "intelligence" in conditions that don't call for it, such as heavy snow or ice.

Basically, you're stuck with it.

There are always ways ;)

as far as i know, it is a feature of the ESP system, and to be honest, i wouldnt let ANYONE play with my cars ESP softaware, no matter how professional he is (except Bosch technicians maybe, who produce it)

it never bothered me personally, i always engage reverse to activate the parking sensors anyway (too lazy to turn my head back lol), so it rolls back immediateley with reverse engaged

If the car doesn't have Cruise control it's very easy.
Just unplug the wires from the switch on the clutch and that's it.

Good idea! Unfortunately/fortunately (depending on how you see it) the car does indeed have cruise control :)

We could exchange. Mine doesn't have cruise control but I'd like to have it; yours has it and you can't unplug the clutch switch in order to disable the hill holder.:D

Haha, thanks but no thanks - I can't live without cruise control.

If you think this thread is idiotic just give the man the solution to his problem and we all be very glad.

This thread might be idiotic because it's not a problem to begin with.

Hillholder is a very useful feature that never bothered anyone before the OP and the solution has been give many times before: don't engage the first gear if you want your car to reverse!

I find it annoying because when your sitting on a hill and go to set off it takes 2 seconds for the car to start moving even though you're giving it beans. Doesn't feel good on the clutch.

Ok, once again I need to clarify what the bother is, apparently.

I regularly park outside my girlfriend's house. The area outside is a very steep hill - think "San Francisco" and you're getting pretty close to the kind of incline I'm talking about.

Apart from being very steep, the parking spaces are also very narrow and the street is generally crowded, meaning there's no "simple parallel parking" involved at all; it takes a lot of tiny moves to get into a space. You move forward a foot, back a foot, forward a foot... etc etc. You get the picture.

Now. Let's say I'm parking up this hill. In any other car I would move forward using 1st gear, and then move backwards by simply letting go of the brakes. Rocking back and forth this way is quick and efficient and getting in and out of the very tight space is easy and hassle free.

With the Bravo though, I have to either keep shifting back and forth all the time for those tiny bits of movement, or I have to wait for what feels like ages for the thing to disengage in order to be able to roll back.

I'm not asking for miracles or a change of the world here - all I want is a simple "off" switch to make my life a lot easier.

NOW do you understand what I'm on about?

And, because I know someone is going to ask: No I don't feel "helped" by it when taking off up this hill either; what would be helpful is if the car would just let ME handle the brake and clutch. Anyone with a modicum of motor skills can learn that with little to no problems.
