This thread might be idiotic because it's not a problem to begin with.
Hillholder is a very useful feature that never bothered anyone before the OP and the solution has been give many times before: don't engage the first gear if you want your car to reverse!
Ok, once again I need to clarify what the bother is, apparently.
I regularly park outside my girlfriend's house. The area outside is a very steep hill - think "San Francisco" and you're getting pretty close to the kind of incline I'm talking about.
Apart from being very steep, the parking spaces are also very narrow and the street is generally crowded, meaning there's no "simple parallel parking" involved at all; it takes a lot of tiny moves to get into a space. You move forward a foot, back a foot, forward a foot... etc etc. You get the picture.
Now. Let's say I'm parking up this hill. In any other car I would move forward using 1st gear, and then move backwards by simply letting go of the brakes. Rocking back and forth this way is quick and efficient and getting in and out of the very tight space is easy and hassle free.
With the Bravo though, I have to either keep shifting back and forth all the time for those tiny bits of movement, or I have to wait for what feels like ages for the thing to disengage in order to be able to roll back.
I'm not asking for miracles or a change of the world here - all I want is a simple "off" switch to make my life a lot easier.
NOW do you understand what I'm on about?
And, because I know someone is going to ask: No I don't feel "helped" by it when taking off up this hill either; what would be helpful is if the car would just let ME handle the brake and clutch. Anyone with a modicum of motor skills can learn that with little to no problems.
