Hi guys,

I bought myself a new TV recently and have noticed that these new thin Tv's have crap sound :-( ... I have just tried using my brothers small sound bar he has for his PC and it has made a fantastic difference!

So I'm going to invest in a decent home cinema sound bar but I'm unsure what I'm looking for, can anyone point me in the right direction? Preferably I would like it to be wall mountable :)

Are there any other way I can improve my home cinema experience?

Thanks
Craig

I was thinking around £300?

I've tried having a look but don't understand half of it so looking for more information on what kind of things I'm looking for in a sound bar :)

That looks like quite a nice site dude! :)

Is the subwoofer a must have component? I notice some come with and some without, I imagine it would be better with one?

wattage is no indicator of quality, If you have a shop near you (?Edinburgh) go in and speak to them they are really clued up unlike most electrical stores and won't try selling you something thats not suitable, because they might make a bit more money. They really do only sell you what you need for your set up. they happen to have this on offer at the Edinburgh branch as a clearance item so likely even cheaper than the actual add and you can go see what it sounds like.

If you can't get into the store try giving them a ring and check out how cheap there bluray players are if you don't already have one !

Subwoofer is a must IMO, and remember the quality of the audio a sound bar produces will only be as good as the audio you put into it. So if your TV has small speakers and crap audio circuitry even the most expensive sound bar will still sound crap.

This may be of interest to you ..

As a compromise, soundbars are a good idea. They're a world away from the full 7.1 surround sound systems and, for most people they will do a really good job. The Roth is available at £99 or about £149 with a sub-woofer.

I use a Bose Wave radio/cd thingy which is 100 times better than the tv sound, but is still a little muddled with really complex soundtracks. The Bose soundbar has had mixed reviews but seems well priced in comparison with other Bose products.

As advised, visit Richer Sounds. For a national chain they're well informed and Julian Richer always makes sure they have a good selection of award winning gear. Last year's award winning gear, admittedly, but if you buy this year's award winning gear, next year it'll.....er, be last year's.....er, award winning gear. If you see what I mean.
