A few days ago my Stilo 1.6 started making a horrible rattling sound which sounded like failed alternator bearings, but before I had chance to stop the car and check where the noise was coming from the engine conked out. I got the car back home courtesy of AA.

Yesterday I discovered the cambelt tensioner had broken allowing the belt to flap around (I'm amazed it didn't snap or shear teeth). I now don't know if the belt has slipped and lost the timing (I suspect it has as it conked out) and the only way to be sure is to re-time the engine and see what happens.

Does anyone have a set of the specialist camshaft locking tools I can borrow or hire? I'll obviously cover any costs and will replace anything I inadvertently lose or damage. I live in Telford but I'll be more than happy to cover any postage costs on top of any hire costs.

Also, if anyone has a used cambelt tensioner they could let me have or borrow I would also be extremely grateful.

I would normally be happy to buy these tools and parts but I was made redundant three weeks ago and I'm having to be frugal with what bit of cash I have left. If I can prove the engine is undamaged then I'll be happy to fit a new belt, pulleys etc but don't want to spend a couple of hundred pounds if the valves turn out to be damaged.
