My punto 1996 is not starting... When inserting the key the code key bulb does not turn off, also noticed that the injector bulb is not switched on too.
I tryed to use the spare key too.
Do you think its an ecu problem? How much would it cost?

Re: Any ideas??

Thanks for your immediate reply but can you please help out more where is this 'reciver ring on ignition to code box' (near which fuse box)'

Greatly appreciated.
Karl

Re: Any ideas??

Wiring appear to be fine. Could it be the ecu? (since the key code bulb on the dash board is not switching off)??

Thanks
Karl

Re: Any ideas??

Problem solved!!!!!
It was a fuse under the black cover (under the hood) just near where there is the fuse for the petrol pump.

Thanks for your help
Cheers
Karl

Ok I know its fixed now but the clue here was that the efi warning light was not coming on when switching the igntition on. This means the ecu is either faulty or is not receiving power or an earth. If this occurs the code system cannot communicate with an ecu that is not powered so the code light remains lit. Always check you have both lights lit before starting to investigate code problems.

What is the efi warning light?

Its the red lamp in the shape of an injector on this model. On 99 models its a red or orange engine symbol.

My punto did the same yesterday i was driving to work then it just cut off and was turning over but not starting :bang: , abit of a problem when you on a main road and you have to push your car alone.

I managed to get my car recovered to a main fiat dealer (lombard round about), they charged me 45 quid for diagnostic test and said i need to replace the ECU, Control Box and the ignition barrell  and they wanted £510 to do this  .

After reading the messages on this site i think i might get my car recovered to my work and I will try some of the options stated here.I will post my out come later today.

???Quick question? how long should I leave the battery disconnected for?

As far as I know if you disconnect it for about 45-60 minutes it should reset. But it had no effect on mine.

Try replacing these from another car and make sure that`s the problem before ordering new ones. In my case it wasn`t. And they were about to charge me 1000euros; and I got them for 150. And now that I changed these they still don`t know what the fault is.

well it seems like i needed my ecu to be re-programmed,it cost me £250, its working now but only the injector light wont go off- does anyone know what that means and how can i get it sorted?....................................plz help

i've got an ECU for Punto S75 1.2 mpi
I lost my car key, so in the garage they replaced the ECU saying :" for having the car started you have to have the original key to unlock the imobilizer, and because you don't have it, you should buy a new one.
a. were they corrct?
b. now I have an ECU Unit, I can send it for who will pay the shipment.

they were correct. dont know what your saying in the second part though. are you looking to send your ecu to someone?

I am guessing he has a spare ecu now, so will send it to someone if they pay the shipment...

does it has any use ? if not, then i've got nothing to do with it
so i'm ready to send it to someone that will pay the shipment.
but as I said I don't have it's key.

(i'm useualy writing HEB, so i'm kind of confused with the latters).

I had the same prob on my P-reg punto.
Took abit of time 2 locate the fault.
Somehow water had got into the ECU and damaged the electronics.
The red key wouldn't work either.

I had to replace the ECU, and key switch, all good now.
Cost me abt £180 to get fixd
