I have removed my fuel tank today to replace.
Like a fool I've gotten a tank from a mk1 with a circular hole for the fuel pump.
My car has the oval fuel pump.

Now also while removing the fuel tank I've snapped the plastic connector that the return fuel line connects onto :bang:

Now,
Can I get a plastic top to swap over so that I can keep my actual pump and fit it to this new mk1 tank?
I'm considering chopping and welding between the 2 tanks to make the pump fit if not.

If I go down this route I may try and repair the plastic connector on the fuel sender.

Any tips and advice on which route to go down now?

Could you not perhaps get a straight connector that will fit in both the return pipe as well as into the broken piece? Something like a straight pipe connector ??(see pic). A straight pipe reducer might be needed on the broken connector side to be small enough to fit in. You could then use sealant to make sure it all stays in place.

Alternatively, could you not remove the broken connector completely and feed the return pipe through the hole where the connector was? You might need a length of pipe if there isn't enough slack on the return pipe. You could then seal the pipe and the hole securely.

I didnt think that both parts being rigid tgat it'd be very easy to get a good solid connection with them and it'd be too scared to seal the hole with sealant too.

I did however have the same idea of sealing a hose into it and using a metalconnector between the two so that it's stronger. Had me up most of the night thinking about it as sad as it is.

I think i'll go with that and find some petrol proof sealant.
Thank you for the help and we'll see how it goes

Give it a try I'm sure it'll work.

I'm up most nights thinking about my car haha. Always improvements to be made. Keep us updated.
