So I've purchased a 1999 1242 MK2 engine.

Reading several of the other threads everyone has used MK1 punto 1242s. Does anybody know of a thread documenting a MK2 engine swap?

Or otherwise know of the loom/ECU requirements?

Also there seems to be the impression that the Punto MK2 blocks don't fit the panda gearbox. Mine does, were there certain FIRE blocks that made it into the 1999 MK2 cars?

I've not heard of anyone fitting a Mk2 1.2 but this thread may be of use:

I imagine the 1.2 is a similar setup to the 1.4 so you have fly by wire throttle and a more complicated ECU system with a body module and ABS etc to deal with.

Easiest solution is to fit a mk1 Punto inlet manifold and loom but they are getting harder to find now, or another option is an aftermarket ECU.

I plan to fit a 1.4 16v to one of my cars at some point so I'll be interested to see how you get on Adam.

Is the ABS/speed signal getting used somewhere else by ECU or just ABS module? if so no need to worry, MIL will not lit up on the dash anyway.

There were versions witoput ABS as well - than the speed signal was taken from gearbox speed sensor.
Speed signal is being used by the PAS to decrease assistance as speed goes higher.

Body computer pinout:https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-ii/236297-body-computer-pinout-here.html

With immobilazer in ECU being disabled, I would say that the body computer could be removed completely.
I'm sure Fiat engineers did not ever dreamed to run 188 in such as bare configuration.

I think the mk2 Punto's speedometer takes its input from the wheel speed sensors but assuming you're using the Panda gearbox you can just use the existing mechanical setup with the Panda's speedometer.
I imagine the only major obstacle would be getting past the issue of the fly by wire throttle, but as already suggested swapping it for a mk1 inlet to get a cable setup again would work

It already has a cable throttle. No worries there!

Keeping the panda gearbox so the speedometer will be the same.

My largest worry is the electronics as I have very little experience. I have the original ECU (which is worryingly bolted to the inlet manifold) so was thinking of getting the immobiliser deactivated so I don't need to get the BSI and fusebox. Does this sound realistic?
