Hey guys

I have a grande punto 1.4 tjet 2009.

This is more of a discussion but I was wondering if anyone has tried that Prestone universal antifreeze. I am intrigued to know people's thoughts as this is more readily available.

Thanks.

I've used it in a non long term car because a superstore was within walking distance and I could not be bothered to go into town for the right kind.
It's supposedly compatible with both OAT and old non-OAT (Silicate) antifreeze (so neither G11 or G12 Peter, not that your question actually added anything). It is also useful if you need to top up a car when you don't know what is in the system already. I would not use it in a long term car by choice.

Universal for me means good enough for all, but not excellent in anything ...

Engineers have been making lots of tests and do recommend Paraflu for the Fiat engines, so why would you use another brand ?
Readily availability ? BS ! Buy one galon next time you're at a dealer shop and you'll be ready to face the situation if in need.
BTW, is Opel / Vauxhall also recommending Paraflu ??

Hi Robert,

I meant a galon in the garage and maybe one liter out of it, together with duck tape, wd40, tie-raps, rags, engine oil, spare plugs, coils, brake pads, spare fuses, some wires, jubilee-clips etc. in the trunk, close to the (fully populated) tool-box ... ;-)

More serioulsly I suggest to get some stuff in the garage, since according to Murphy's law, sh.. will always happen during the week-end and/or after shops closure.

Don't know if vauxhall is going to Paraflu what makes you ask that? Why would they?

G11= blue/green (old fashioned) anti-freeze, change every two years.

G12 = pink/red OAT anti-freeze, change every 5 years.

But these questions/numbers are irelevant, as Robert pointed out so sweet...

Back to your question, do you mean waterless coolant?
Thanks for this. No I don't mean waterless coolant nut 9 have heard about this and 8t does seem to be spike but I think there is to little people making the change for me to ever give it a whirl. I was just intrigued by this prestone and the.claims it makes to say it can go in any mixture etc etc

As Bernie and I have discussed, the Prestone coolant IS compatable with both main types of coolant in use, blue/green (slicate G11) and red (OAT G12). It is oever probably not as good all-round as either. If it was used I'd change at the soonest recommended period (2 years blue green silicate AF).
The Prestone is not really suited to a complete coolant change as it is no cheaper (up to twice the price from some suppliers) than RED (OAT) coolant.
Waterless is completely different and I would not use it in any engine with a marginal or highly optimised (like modern small engines) cooling system.

Robert.
