Technical Another MJET gearbox problem?

my mjet is now on 56k and has developed a whining in 3rd and 4th gears. Goes away instantly when changing to any other gear and when placing clutch down.
Is this a sign i need the gearbox refurbing?

sounds just like what mines doing, but mine does it in 2nd 5th and 6th.

yeah mines all quite in all gears apart from 3rd and 4th. Let me know if you find out what the problem is. Looking at getting mine seen to when i go on my hols n 26th

Is it just me but there seems to be a lot of mjet gear boxes going at the moment. Think i will get the oil level checked on mine next service.

Mine has been doing this in 1st and 2nd gear,I got it checked out by a garage and its the bearings on the shaft of the gears so looking at £950 all in for a recon box

They are one of the worst gearboxes ever like.

You only have to google M32 gearbox issue and look at the 100s of topics on Vauxhall forums.

Mines whining in 6th, bit of movement in 5th and 2nd grinds when driving along yet it still changes gear smoothly. Luckily i found out yesterday i have 2 months warranty left so hopefully warranty will be sorting it out.

I was quoted £395 plus £175 for fitting for all bearings replaced or £750 plus £175 for fitting. If your lucky you could get a 2nd hand one off ebay for £650 but i personally would not risk it.

My gearbox was replaced under warranty in aug 2011, it's on it's way out gain , been to dealer an they say it's not bad enough to swap yet, needs to get worse lol. So 5 months on a recon!

lol that is shocking. Hoping they do mine under warranty just need to get it confirmed but i think they might kick off because of its service history.

Mine was only done as I have a fiat extended mechanical breakdown warranty. And all servicing has been done at main dealer early, and all warranty work at same garage.

I had this, in first and second gears. Refurb box, new clutch and dual mass flywheel. £1200. Its a good job these cars look so nice! It had a good run down to bordeaux and back just after and runs like a dream now!

Just read that these gearbox's upper torque limit is 320 N-m or 236 ft-lbs, no wonder they're not lasting, especially on remapped Mjets.

I doubt thats true as standard astra vxr makes that and the nurburg edition makes more than that.

Your bearings are going, will need a refurb or reconditioned gearbox fitted.

Just had mine done, cost £950 on a 56 MJet, with 36000 on the clock.

Maybe, since read over on VXR that it's rated at 400nm & 295lbft. Although the http://www.fptpowertrain.com website mentions 320nm for the M32 box.

It does seem though from over there that it's tuned car's that are suffering most of the issues which is no surprise.

@ matty_oakley - should have had a milder Angel remap mate, perhaps your boxes would last longer! No wonder yours are failing with torque like that...lol

Mines failed after 29k that i've done in the last year, its been running 330 ft lbs. Its a pain but im not going to complain too much as end of day its not standard.
