mk1 punto, 1.2 8v. |I decided refresh cooling system before winter.

1. Flushed cooling system.
2. New water pump.
3. New thermostat with housing (bought in ebay as original fiat part.... well package looked original, also marking in housing said 80 ish temp (i think it should open at this temp))
4. new heater matrix.
5. new coolant.

number times were bleeding system, cold and hot...

Problem is - when driving in city - temperature around 3/4 of scale, when i had to go on motorway,m regularly temperature gouge reaches red "H", i have to stop for few minutes, to cool down.

Is that my new thermostat not working(in old thermostat housing there were no thermostat) ?
airlock ?

...or bloody headgasket ?

Bottom pipe to radiator is only worm, not hot.

cheers

if there is water bubble, is any techniques get it out ?? kind way lift up cars front, ? or get syringe and try get it through rubber pipes ?

i wouldnt buy a thermostat off the internet purely because like brake parts its littered with copies of poor quality even a famous retailer got raided in ireland earlier this year and were found to be duped with brake component poor copies

you say no thermostat in housing you removed and you would only do this if there was a pressure build up in the cooling system due to a faulty headgasket (usually anyway)
suggest you have a sniff test of your coolent system at a garage to confirm or deny head gasket failure
do it sooner rather than later to save a bigger bill :)

nice saturday eh(n) oh well

thanks for advice, will do that.

If the hg has failed, open the bleed screw. If air rushes out, its on its way out.

There is a posibility of a faulty temperature sender

temp sensor for dash recently installed, brand new from sop4parts. i am suspecting , that there is to much gases in cooling system, but not overpressure, and no leaks , and coolant not reducing.
ill go to garage for coolant chemical test , to be sure, i have problems with headgasket.

When bleeding don't overfill expansion bottle and squeeze radiator top hose to encourage fluid to move.
Dont do it with engine running.
Have you compression tested cylinders?

Havent done yet compression test yet, but i have tester, so when ill have more time work on car, will do compression test.
Just could you give me figures, what it should be on mk1 1.2l. 8v engine.

Thanks

Bad news .... :( today went to garage for coolant chemical carbon test, my blue coolant went in to green colour, and guy said... headgasket leaking 100 % . Haven't major problems, just heating on regular basis goes over 3/4, and a engine bit rattles on idle revs. Anyone know good source for good quality headasket kits, for descent money ??

were looking in to sho4parts website.. what is difference between spi and mpi engines ??
