New to the forum so thought it would be good to say hello before I start asking for advise. I also live in the not so sunny part of Kent today, and am looking to buy my daughter a nice Fiat 500 after her beloved Micra (her first car) was written off, luckily she wasn't inside at the time, someone drove straight into it!
I've owned a 1.5 Alfasud and 1.8 Guillietta in my very distant past (mid 80s) both sounded great but lost out to the dreaded rust.
So hello to everyone, hope to see you around the forum, and thanks in advance for any advise given.

Hi,

and welcome to you both,

the 500 is certainly well supported on this forum,
HUGE amount of info..,

the 1.2's are VERY good little motors - the 2014 EURO6 emissions regs had a few running badly though..

the 1.3 Diesel is Great on fuel, but has potential of timing chain disaster.

875cc TwinAir - the "different" alternative.
weird engine note / Good power or Good economy.. just not BOTH TOGETHER
seem pretty durable though

on older cars biggest potential headache is corrosion to the rear suspension spring cups.
poor wiring to tailgate / hatch also..but a cheaper thing to remedy.

Hi Charlie and thanks for the welcome, we've spent the last few weekends trying to find the one, and have narrowed it down to a 64 reg black lounge with all the bells and whistles including some lovely diamond cut alloys that were spec'd by the original owner who we are buying from.
There are a few cosmetic dings and scratches which we will get sorted but the biggest thing is that there is evidence of some minor damage to the underside of the near side sill close to front wheel arch.
It's not too bad to be fair but I know it's there now, so I'm trying to weigh up the bigger picture, in terms of buying it. It's still under Fiat warranty.
Assume someone has damaged it putting it up on the ramps from what I've read.
