I recently bought a 2.8 JTDI based Moho, year 2000, want to change the gearbox oil. Will 75/90 be OK, GL4 spec? Thanks.

A recommendation for my x244 2.8jtd which has a later gearbox is 75w/85 GL4, which is a close match. What I have read is to avoid GL5 oil in gearboxes, as the higher level of phosphorous additives is reputed to attack the bronze components.

Thanks, yes, indeed from what I've read it needs to be the Gl4 spec. I was just wondering if the 90 upper was OK? Or must it be no more than 85?

It only means that the oil will be slightly thicker. Not likely to be a problem particularly with an older box.

Please note that the fifth gear in these boxes is splash lubricated. I try to follow the advice of not using it for the first mile if the vehicle has been standing for longer than overnight.
