Ive got a Fiat Bravo 1.4 (12v) N reg.
Our airbag light has been on for months. The Fiat garage say the fault is with the ECU specifically the wire loom from the coaxial adapter. Fiat are having problems finding a replacement wire with adaptor and are waiting for an answer from Fiat in Italy. Ive been waiting for 2 weeks and no luck, car is due its MOT soon. Anyone know anything about this replacement wire and adaptor and where I could source one? Why do I need to buy a new ECU if its just a wire that needs replacing?
Thanks

Re: MOT

Your car doesn't need to have a functioning or non-functioning airbag to pass the MOT.

MOT - our Fiat garage told us otherwise. How can I argue with them? Is there some official motoring organisation that I confirm that with?
Any advice about the wire/ECU problem?
Thanks

Another ECU problem

Cheers for that. I cant believe our Fiat garage told use that we would have to replace the ECU or else the car would fail the test. We had to pay a deposit of £200 for the ECU which Fiat still have not managed to source. Im off to phone the garage - hopefully can get deposit back.
Thanks for the help.

Give em some ....

Lizzie

Give em some **** about it. Tell them you've sought advice from an independent mechanic who tells you that they are talking through their backsides. Demand your money back and take the car to a trusted garage for a second opinion. They'll back down if you stand up to them.

Hope you get it sorted.

Not wanting to drop a spanner in the works, but if it's fitted it must work. ie Cracked mirrors are a failure, no mirrors arn't. If u were to disconnect the airbag light, this would constitute to not being fitted, hence not testable, albeit a warning light that is on would be.

Airbag ECU

Apparently someone in Malaysia got the solution to this ECU problem. The idea is to erase the EPROM in the ECU. There is a small battery in it and by short circuiting it, it does the trick.

Visit www.autotrade.com.my
and look under
Fiat Favourites--Thumbs up for HHK

"have to discharge the battery backup by shorting it in series with 2 watt bulb....So this will remove all the previous memory stored in the ECU..even the fiat lancia tester cannot erase this memory because the ecu
system hang!. Same as what I did to the alarm ECU. "

Airbag

Hi Gurjit, How are you?

About my airbag problem, after getting the airbag clockspring, they did a simulation test and more faulty messages came out. One of them is the airbag ECU. They seems not interested in solving electronics problem. Can the ECU be opened and just take out the backup battery to resert EPROM?

Hows your airbag, is it okay?

Regards,

Syed.
