I think i am starting to get the same problem - With the clutch that is!!

The cable snapped just before Christmas and since the new one has been fitted the biting point seems to keep moving down the pedal and have adjust.

The missus has called me at work tonight and said she is finding it hard to get it into gear again (I only adjusted it about 4wks ago)

So i guess my question is:

* How long has it got before it goes completely? (Does around 50 miles wk)

* How much will it cost me to replace at a non Fiat Dealership?

The car is a w "00" model with 47k on the clock.

Many thanks in advance,

Christian.(y)

Ideally, if you arent going to repair it yourself then get yourself to 2 or 3 local garages and ask for a quote, you could even buy the clutch yourself and just get a quote for fitting it.

How long will it last? I reckon mine was partly on its way out when I got the car in december 06, only in the last 3 months I had to keep re-adjusting, I first thought it was the adjuster nut unscrewing itself, there was always a whine from the clutch when engien was hot, and pedal pressed in, it just got worse, adjusting was weekly, then daily, then on my way home one day last week it just didnt want to go in gear at all, I adjusted it one last time to enable me to put the car in my back yard to repair it.

I would see to it sooner, rather than later. :)

Thanks for the Quick reply :)

Untill tonight i was of the same opinion - That the adjuster nut was working loose but of course after searching on here i have found that the harsh reality is that i need a new clutch. - You guys know how to cheer me up, especialy as a first post too ;)

Looks like a visit to my local garage is not too far away.........

Do shop around. The backstreet clutch fitters here will do it for £100 plus parts cash in hand.

Will that be right - Clutch kit £35 off flea bay??.....seems too cheap to me!!

Wont let me add the link because i have not had Five posts.....What are the moderators thinking??????(n) ;)

I bought my clutch kit off ebay, I think with postage it came to £43.99 so chances are it was one of those £35 ones

It arrived quickly, its not branded but if you know your components a good look at them and you can tell its not rubbish, my local motorfactor [andrew page ltd] who I have a trade account with could not beat the price, for a similar sourced kit.

I was happy with my cheap purchase, I am not hard on clutches and my days of racing starts are well over, so for my use the price I paid I consider spot on.

However, if I had to do it again, I would either 1) drop engine and box complete and work on it that way, or 2) save up and get somebody else to do it.

I would consider myself very competant at car mechanics, but in all my time I have never changed a clutch by taking the box out leaving engine in car [apart from a mini] the job was very very hard to do, well lets say - taking the box off and onto the floor wasnt, but crikey getting back up and on was a nightmare!!!

DIY clutching (O er) is really down to experience and the right kit: the clutch monkeys (with a lift, a transmission jack, air tools and an engine support) will do it in less than an hour. I've got 3 of the buggers to do (or Fluffy will be screaming for his exchange flywheels) so I'll be fabricating a support something like the one in the FIAT manual to hold the gearbox. Last time I knocked up a wooden one which worked fairly well, but fell to bits at the end.

And ye olde Scoobie needs a clutch, too................. :(
