The Megane seems to be finding homes, but then so would the Bravo if Fiat UK told people it existed

Not until it gets a truly comfortable seating position and decent rear legroom it won't. Sorry, but these two points are easy to discover during a test drive and must put a lot of people off. And don't forget, lots of excellent competitors now come with 5/7 year guarantees, and for the private buyer that matters.

I know what you mean re driving position, ofcourse people won't buy it if it's uncomfy, and i know some people find the seats/driver layout bad. But you gotta question how many people don't even test drive the Bravo, due to the lack of awareness of the model. When i say Fiat Bravo to people they think im on about the 3dr hatch from the 90s. If Fiat advertised it then surely it would sell better?

The space in the back i'd say is also important, but there's gotta be other models out there that are just the same in this respect and still sell well.

Similarly warranty - i think the Megane has the same 3 year set-up as the Bravo. Though i admit my experience with Renault says they actually honour warranty claims and don't just say 'sorry Sir, it's wear and tear' so i dare say the Megane may have won friends from former Renault/Megane owners, despite many people being dissatisfied. Fiat was obviously off to a bad start on the repeat-custom front as they hardly sold any Stilos and do have a tendancy to pi*s off those that buy their cars by making inconsistent decisions on warranty claims.

Renault will give you cash if you have cluster failure in a megane, this helps pay the repair bill as its a common fault. No if's no but's, thats customer retention!

Renault also seemed very easy-going with fitting numerous replacement parts to my 02 reg Clio. The car was a blo*dy nightmare, far far worse than any of my Fiats i'm pleased to say. But i would buy another Renault because they never questioned replacing pulleys, fanbelts & coils, fixing airbag connectors, unresponsive keys and other items that made my motoring life hell for 18 months. They also gave me £500 to say sorry when i decided to hand the car back and terminate the finance agreement after 18months, even though i never asked for compensation.

Similarly theyve had no issue replacing a few parts on my Parents 52 reg Laguna, even though we didn't buy it new. That has been an awful lot better than the Clio, though.

Im sure there will be people out there with terrible experience of Renault but i just liked the way that when stuff did go wrong, they admitted a problem and fixed it, without the excuses so many Fiat owners seem to get.
