Had the car accessed this afternoon. Bloke at the insurance approved place couldn't say if it would be a write off or not, but the car has got to do 80miles of round trips on the back of a low loader just to have LPG tank emptyed and removed so the car can go into an oven when paint is done, and then back to have LPG tank reinstalled.

I've done a mental price up and can see it being very close, so bring on the trumphets :p

hmmmm could be a close one, boot looks like it has bent inwards at the bottom, does it still open and shut properly?
how about the spare wheel well, does it look like its taken any of the impact?

Boot needs one mother of a slam to shut (n)

Spare wheel well looks ok, but can't see the whole of the inside as the LPG tank is secured into place. Underneath, looks ok, but the Towbar securings cover alot of the underside chasis rails, so until removed can't be 100% srure floor hasn't shifted, and the towbar took alot of the force.

never can tell 100% towbar maybe holding it all in place. but could also just as easliy be the only thing that could of saved it.

have a quick look all round rear wheels, suspension and axel areas, they can often be affected by shunts.

They all seem to be ok around there.

Rear cross member (where boot catch is) has shifted very slightly.

I'm hoping it is a write off in a way, as after you know a cars had a shunt it'll never feel the same even if properly repaired.

I believe that LPG tank helped prevent the floor shifting alot, as the rear slam pannel is now resting against the side of it (had it all checked and is safe), where as you used to be able to just fit your hand between the two before.

am i right in thinking the rear slam panel isn't a bolt on, bolt off part?

if so most likely write off

Indeed on both accounts, and I'm not accepting it just being 'knocked' back into place.

Made me laugh, when car was being accessed the accessor had the cheak to ask if I use the towbar.

Was tempted to say that it's to keep poorly driven Ka's from causing to much damage.

yer would have to have a new one properly welded back on then.

:ROFLMAO: it makes me wonder how these people get their jobs,
although you could have been using it purely for the styling and performance gains :p

More than likely it will be written off. Who is dealing with
your claim if it's the third parties insurance direct they
do not have any right to the salvage of the vehicle it
remains your property. If your own insurance company
right it off then thay have and it's their property as soon
as you accept the valuation.

If the boots not crumpled then it may be a case of
bolting on another rear door and bumper.

Ta for that John, yes planning on keeping the vehicle and am very clued up on what they can and can't do (got dad's CAT A written off Panda returned when someone hit him head on back in March :p).

Its being delt with by the Ka drivers insurance. They called me and admitted liability at the scene (very efficient I thought :)). Although even as a 3rd party claim if your insurance company write it off (and its defo a not at fault claim) they still can't retain the vehicle, but just becomes a tad more complicated (y)

Done that, they all seem to line up properly luckily.

Same sized gap all the way around them between the doors and the 'C' pillars (y)

Wow the shunt must have knocked some sense into the car. None of my body panels actually line up. The doors sit slightly low, the A pillars dont align to the wings and the front side panel sits proud of the lights. :bang:

have you ever wondered why?
or tried to fix it?

Yep, and a good 1.5meters forward upon incar footage review :p

Thats a 3-door for you

Leave running very fast :ROFLMAO: :p

5 door is the same i believe. Have a look next time you see a stilo. The bottom extremety of the front side panel where it wraps around the headlamp sits proud. The A pilars are obvious.
The doors are my own fault for adding about 12 KG of deadening to them and soon to be 8" Mid bass drivers. :slayer:

it is :) unless it's been in a serious accident ;) i.e. all my panels and pillars were perfectly aligned until a nice 9 year old Vauxhall astra has driven into the rear.. (< 10 mph) little damage but enough to bang the tailgate (my insurance chipped out for repairs <due to the Astra being uninsured> but not a replacement.. tailgate ‘s been sitting a few millimetres to the left since then.. but all the other bits are still proportioned and aligned.. oh it’s a 5 dr 2 ;) )
