General Am i doing something wrong...autotrader?

A good idea if your not planning to buy for a few months is to contact your dealer and ask to be informed of any ex-fiat cars that come available. Generally Fiat only register 5 door Stilo's for their own use but you can get lucky. Some are excellent value. My dealer reckoned he could get hold of a '54 plate JTD 5 door for about £7,495 with about 4-6,000 miles on the clock. Also ask the large car supermarkets to add you to their lists.

Also Re; Stilo JTD in Broom Yellow, there is an '03 plate 3 door on autotrader with 34,000 miles for £6,495 which isn't too bad

Dave:

I’ve now bought 2 cars from ‘Uncle Arnold’ and although some friends do slag them off I have been happy with the deals I’ve got on each occasion.

I got my Stilo JTD for less than what petrol ones were being advertised at in other dealers and even what private sellers were asking at the time + I was able to negotiate 12 months interest free credit.

The branch was a Vauxhall dealer and the only work I’ve had done since buying the car was a service by Reg Vardy (my local Fiat dealer) who were unable to hear the squealing noise my car makes on full left lock!

Is there such a thing as a good (Fiat) car dealer?

Andeh:

You’re right to do your homework – just be ready to swoop when you see exactly what you want as 3 door JTD Stilo’s are a relatively rare breed!

MBarratt2:

Thanks for the details on the Broom Yellow JTD on Autotrader. If my current mileage continues, I’ll be looking to replace in about 1 year’s time (which will coincide with the warranty expiring!)

'cracker' = good thing :p

I got a good deal on a good car, which just happened to be the exact spec i was after. I know i wont be this lucky with the Stilos, but i will look, and i will compromise on everything except the doors and engine type. :)

As for the fiat dealers, that is something that i will look into, i already have the numbers of some of the local dealers around(been to see them a few times :) ) so i will find out a bit more about that.

Dave your just jealous because you dont have a top quality, french made, lean mean street racing machine! And before you ask, i will not swop it for your Stilo, no matter how much money you throw at me! :p

D&J Autos are just down the road, i go in there every few weeks to see if there are any new stilos in there. If you do need directions, find the A505 and follow it up, they are just off of it, right next to a village called Billington.

Lolololol :p

So dave, what's this Stilo I understand you are now driving? ;)

Just to quickly answer the question of this thread:
the requests for Stilo 3 dr have soared in recent months and prices of second hand models have been quickly increasing or holding due to very high demand in the market, both new and second hand.
The main problem has been that only 12 months ago the Stilo 3 door was a nearly unknown car in the UK, privilege for a few and mostly inaccesible to the general public (most of the people could not find one). In recent months the general public, and not just car enthusiasts, are trying to buy the Stilo 3dr which is very difficult fo find now second hand: basically there are not enough cars on sale to meet demand as the owners do not want to sell and lots of buyers are out there to grap a bargain.
The price trend on second hand has totally changed becaue of this.
Obviously we all knew that a depreciation of nearly 50% after a couple of years was a bit excessive and the market is now correcting this due to high demand and low supply. The price of the 3 door is holding sensibly better than the 5dr for known reasons (sorry guys!).

I will not sell mine for any amount and I am sure many Stilo owners love their car so much that they would not even sell if offered more than what they paid for: certainly I love the Stilo 3 dr and I think it is an incredible peace of technology applied to a very successfull elegant aggressive Italian design.

The best of having this car was (and is) its exclusivity and I really hope this is not going to change, I do not want it to become a "Focus" or "Golf" mass car otherwise it will lose the best part of it: this car is SPECIAL!
Sorry Fiat, you can make a lot of money on the new Punto which looks good so do not panic! Leave the Stilo alone: she is magic.

Every time I see a Stilo 3dr I think: they could have not done it better, these bloody Italians! She is so sweet, tender, elegant...but she can also be aggressive, sporty, a real hunter. What a perfect car. (y)

...which is exactly why i want one! :p

I love them, very few other people do, all my mates and everone i ask turns their nose up at it. Which suits me just right, i like the fact the car is unpopular and not widely known, very few people can actually picture a fiat stilo when you tell them about it, so they just go on the word 'Fiat', which is why they are so negative about it. Hell, before i saw a stilo i wsnt a fiat fan, i wasnt too keen on the styling of the punto or cinquento(no offense to any owners) so i just went on the name. Now that iv seen the stilo, and actually done some[a lot] of research into it, i love everything i hear about it. (y)

"I love them, very few other people do, all my mates and everone i ask turns their nose up at it."

Have had both 5 door & 3 door Stilo's. I don't recall anybody turning their nose up at either; usually the opposite. But when I got my 3 door and in Broom yellow people absolutely love the car and it turns so many heads I feel a little embarrassed. Gave my brother a go in it today and he fell in love with it but feared he could not afford one thinking it had a price tag of around £12k. When I told him it was £8.5K (04 Plate) he planned to give motability a call before his Astra went through!

Somebody at work said it looked like "Origami" which pretty much sums up the lines of the Stilo.

sorry, didnt make it clear, i was saying when you mention the fact that its a fiat people turn their noses up at it. When you actually show them the car their opinions change of it.

It's true, when I tell people I've bought a Fiat Stilo, they have no clue what it is, and assume it's a naff car. When they see it they change their minds though. And mine is a 5 dr. I find 5dr more handy, so went for that, but must admit I the 3dr shape is even sportier looking.

The 5 door car is more exclusive, does that make it better, I think so, but I would say that being one of the "elite" to own such an exclusive car (y)

Anyone want to buy my car for £10k. That is still less than I paid for it ;)

"I will not sell mine for any amount and I am sure many Stilo owners love their car so much that they would not even sell if offered more than what they paid for"

I am sorry if this wasnt clear enough but I was talking about the 3dr only.
The 5dr is in my opinion a completely different car and even if I love the 3dr I really dislike the rear of the 5dr, but this is just my personal opinion.
The truth is that the rear of the 3dr has got nothing in common with the one of the 5dr and the front of the 3dr is also quite different. This makes the entire profile of these two cars completely different, they could be 2 different models in fact, the shape of the sides are totally different too.
I think the 5dr is more difficult to resell because of this and everything I said in my other post does not really apply to the 5dr, in fact the price of a second hand 5dr is lower than an equivalent 3dr even if new the 5dr would have been more expensive! This explains the market of the Stilo.
(y) Sorry.
