So i take it no-one does know the cost or possibilities of a upgraded alt?!
Manual definitely states 85amps for my particular car (97/98 hgt - with no a/c or c/c).
All i know is that when i wired up my new amp of great beefness to a one ohm load (with my dvc subs), it almost killed the car! A warning said low batt, when the car was idling! Mind you the manual also says never to have the amp on without the engine running. Don't often see those types of messages with amps!

PS. Anyone got a rough ball-park figure of a more potent alt?!

Shoot Thomas! Only just seen the the bit about u having a w7! Nice! Was gonna get the 500/1 amp off a mate, but realised i needed a tad more power! Very tuneable though! :)

Alts are expensive, the best way would be to ring around your local car electrical suppliers and see if they will exhange your alt for a bigger one.

£150-200 if you have to buy outright.

Also it won't make a great deal of difference at idle, alts provide max power about 3000 RPM.

That's fantastic. Can get some decent ice specific batteries for that kinda money, so it's not too bad! Those really deep-cycle ones. So i'd guess the car could take an upgrade as a direct replacement?

What size wiring are you running?

Do you mean what size to the amps? If so, i've got a 4awg going to the capacitor and from then into a power distrib. box, where by the gauge reduces to either 6 or 8awg. Hope thats what u meant!
Mind you, i should know all about this, as i used to work with a load of electronics guys!
