Hi Guys

Im in need of some advise please!!

I Have a 57 plate Ducato 2.2 HDI, i had the van from new and she has served me very well until the begining of this year when no 3 piston hit valves and scrapped engine. paid 3k for replacement and same has recently happened:mad: reading through various threads it sounds like its common with this engine. i cant afford to replace it again with a recon or run the risk of it happening again so does anyone know of an alternative engine that will fit without to much headache? I have heard the 2.8 is reliable engine but not sure if its compatible?

Any help / advice on this will be most welcome!!(y)

Thats a puma engine, the 2.8 is iveco, you'd need to change loom, ecu, immobiliser, cluster, gearbox, exhaust, engine mounts probably driveshafts and a ton of other stuff. You'd need a whole donor van.

There are plenty of those engines around in transits and modeos with huge mileage the main mistake is thinking the chain and tensioner will never need to be looked at. Both tensioner and chain can wear but usually by the time it slips or breaks it will have been making noise for ages which should have been picked up.

Thanks for the info,
I'm hoping there is a more compatable engine option I can use without the need for a donor van.
Cheers

You'd probably have more luck fitting the transit version of the same engine swapping your ancillaries onto it. Talk to friendly engine rebuilder. Other sisters engines are in scudo, cmax, c8 etc. no idea how much would bolt up. You'd get a citroen car dw12 engine for £300 and if it bolts up to the gearbox its going to be a hell of a lot easier than shoehorning a 2.8/2/3/3.0 in there.

Thanks for the advise, much appreciated .
I definitely have some options there.
Cheers
