Alternator started making a screechin noise this eve.
It came and went twice.. Both times accompanied by a flickering battery light on the dash.
It wasn't the belt slipping.. It was more of a grating noise.
There's a one way bearing built into the pulley I believe on the altenator... It sounds to me like this is loosing grip.
Is this bearing /pulleyeasy to remove??.. Or is it altenator out job?
Cheers
Marty.

Anyone had this pulley off???
It's only made the racket once since original post so I'm hoping I could get away with changing the pulley n place... Cheaper and hopefully easier than the horror stories I've heard regarding removing the altenator.
Cheers
Marty.

Just had a look at my old Alternator, the Pulley centre is splined, and there's an Allen Bolt in the centre.
I'm guessing the spline is to hold the Pulley while you undo the Bolt, if so, there'll be a special tool involved, a Spline-Wrench with 'hollow' head.

Cheers lads
Bike doc I think your on the money.
Which ain't good news for me!!!
I'll try find a cheap altenator and swap out.

Even if you could find a tool, and remove it, I'd be surprised if a replacement was available outside of the reconditioning industry.
It may be worth ringing round a couple of Alternator reconditioners/suppliers and asking, bearing in mind it's in their interest for you to just buy a new/re-con item

Alternator noise.

Pulleys are on flea bay...
I stand corrected!

Trying to think of a good reason to have a freewheel Pulley on an Alternator now . . .
Another case of a solution looking for a problem?
Or simply the usual case of car makers giving us 'improvements' that just end up costing subsequent owners more and more money
