Just lately I have found myself having to resize many images on here because they are way too big, even for us well endowed lads with mahoosive monitors.

Can I respectfully ask that you all have a read of the guidelines for posting pictures which can be read HERE. Contained in there are all the instructions you need for posting pictures, including the limits on size (640x480) and also how to use simple HTML tags to resize your pictures without the need for third party applications or web services.

This forum uses HTML, not BBCode, so any tags in [square brackets] do not work. Therefore, when posting an image or picture contained in a signature, these BBCode tags will simply sit there, all forlorn and look a bit silly. HTML uses < > instead. There is plenty of info on t'internet about HTML basics.

Thanks for reading :)

possibly another time to review the type of forum we have eh? Alot of forums will automatically resize or refuse to use images that are too big?

ade.... there is always a review of how the forum looks, runs and suggestions to how we can make things better for the organisation.

Behind the scenes there is an awful lot or organising and time devoted to the forum as it is. Wimmy does so much updating and keeping things running, we never realise how much time goes into updating a link here, adding an evnt there, posting a few pics up in the gallery or even adding the shop!!

We will look into changes but right now isn't the best time.... :) :)

its really not time for that debate. please not again. the conclusion is aye the same.

I would like to suggest a review of the max size though, because i dont know anyone who uses a res of less than 1024x768 and that includes my mammy whos eyesight isn't what it used to be (she only has a 19" monitor) So i'd vote for an increase to 600x800 or similar if given the choice. (i know it would space out wimmys tabs at the top, but thats something i could live with if it means reasonable depth and quality on pictures.)

been there mate..yes i appreciate that alot of time and effort goes into it. I used to be 1 of 4 admin on a well known torrent site. we had all these issues and had to move to different boards all the time due to outgrowing and other issues.

well only time can tell :)

no problem

i have allways posted picts at 800x600 as most people run at a minimum of 1024x768 but i do also give a 56k warning if its my thread.

to be honest the foum doesnt really look to smart on a wide screen monitor as it doesnt automatically resize for wide screen i dont know if wimmy can look into this?

A couple of screencaps, just for the banter

Note how i can actually fit TWO of the forum on my desktop space, and how much wasted space there is by resticting the width to that wee patch in the middle, lol..

Also note just how difficult it is to make out the details, although admittedly each pic is of my ENTIRE visible screenspace...

Unlike us lowly types with a tradional aspect ratio and 19"!!

I did have my res et silly high, but everything was too small, and never needed it, so I set it to a happy medium.

I know you can set icon sizes etc, but I'm happy set in my ways!

Thanks to all for your replies, but until we feel it absolutely necessary, the forum will stay as it is. This post wasn't to dig up that old chestnut again, simply to ask people to be a little more considerate to others when posting f*ck off big images.

I work for a software house that develops applications that are used nationwide by Government and Criminal Justice agencies(if you've ever been done by the police, courts or immigration in the UK, our software will probably have processed you ;) ). One basic design principle of all of our programs is that it must be consistently displayed across any number of screen configs or resolutions. This generally means pandering to the lowest common denominator, I.E. 800x600 screen res.

Therefore, we have maintained this format and it has proven more acceptable than otherwise. I'm sure when the time comes, and we can successfully migrate this forum to another host with newer funtionality, or even when Network54 (who currently host us) deliver a worthwhile alternative, we will move onwards and upwards.

In the meantime, please be considerate when posting pictures or webpage links. Simple, basic HTML tags make for a much more pleasant viewing experience for all and I am getting fed up with reformatting stuff that I have often considered deleting offending images until the OP's learn the error of their ways ;)

Thanks again :)
