can i find a red panda 100hp second hand in good condition with the upgraded stereo NO any help i want to spend about 6000 missed one last year on here had the finance sorted and was going to view at w end but he sold it to my horror!!

A bit of compromising maybe? That's a pretty specific list of requirements for a used model that is always in relatively short supply.

Would it be possible to get one with a normal stereo and upgrade it, or is it only possible to get them when new?

Only possible when new. The speakers are different and there are the extra tweeters too. Only other option is some aftermarket sub which is possible I guess.

I've got a red 100hp with the speaker upgrade. :p

The upgrade is well worth having. (y)

Sounds like youd like the one I got here in Republic of Ireland about a month ago.Upgraded 'factory' hifi.(cant listen to it above Level 10-usually 2 or 3 -with equaliser maxxed out -best sound option in my opinion and it goes up to WAAAY higher )Pandemonium pack (Red Callipers/Smoked Grey Alloys /Silver striping and mirrors etc )2007 Red with under 13k miles, one previous urban owner.(Apparently ALL Irish 100hps had the Pandemonium pack fitted and you may be talking as little as half a dozen (OR LESS !-They cost a bomb '17k euro, over here !)in each colour imported into Ireland. Had two FIAT services already. To be honest Im having a love hate relationship with it.

LOVE:

Engine /Power (on a par with Early 90s MX5 or Golf GTi in my opinion .FEELS like 0-60 in about 8.9-9.1 whatever the reality) /Sport Button/ Throttle Response /Handling/Build quality/A genuinely fast, genuine pocket rocket, true spiritual successor to the beloved Cento Sportings ...

HATE :

Not getting 50mpg + (And before you say what do you expect for the performance , a Cappuccino I had would do 52mpg and theres a list of far faster cars than the 100hp that would beat its mpg) ,Screeching brakes when reversing,Cramped in cabin ,Cant Heel and Toe brake safely (yet...)Noisy ,Hardest ride this side of an original Mini .(This didnt bother me too much to begin with but roads are potholed to bits after snow and ice and hitting one (despite wheels appearing to be very strong ) feels like the car and /or your spine is going to shatter ,speed ramps etc ...

I just fitted an Ipod adapter so that might add a bit more to the LOVE side .BUT to be honest if I was offered my money back ,7700 euro or very near, Id be tempted...I THINK...

Unfortunately, i agree. I also have a love/hate relationship with my HP. I do love some bits, handling, gearchange, convenience of bluetooth, sport button, skydome roof (in summer), good seats

my hate list contains a lot of the same things: Ride - i used to have a Mk1 golf GTI which was lowered 110mm that didn't crash and bang like the HP, and it handled better! Getting only 31mpg from a 1.4, getting only 8k from front tyres down to race car camber settings used on the road. i also have a few little niggles, the intermittent front wiper setting is set poorly (in my opinion) with the gaps between 'sweeps' too short. No matter what EQ i use on the stereo, it sounds thin and tinny.

I paid £7,500 about 10 months ago for a 2 year old car and i'd give it back tomorrow if i could... What a shame, i wanted to really love it!

Sorry to hear you are not totally smitten with the 100hp. You must have known about the jiggly ride before you bought it though, didn't you take a test drive/read this forum, or any other review?

I don't know what you would buy for the same sort of money that would tick as many boxes as the 100hp, no its not perfect but the upsides far outweigh the downsides. I had a Fiesta Zetec previously, a 1.4 too, the Panda is better in almost every way; more powerful, faster, more fun, better spec and yet it costs the same to run.

Agree with what most of you have said about love and hate, but lets face it for the money. I paid £5800 for a 2007 blue 100hp with 4500 miles you can't beat it. Plus I have only seen 2 other 100hp's in Northern Ireland, so quite an exclusive club.

Having said what i did in the earlier post, i do admit its a great car for the money and is relatively cheap to run, and compared with my previous motor (Alfa 156 2.0 Selespeed) stupidly reliable! It is great to drive and looks a bit quirky - telling everyone you drive a Panda is a laugh though, i get the p1ss taken out of me something rotten... until we get out on the road.

I did like the power/noise of that Alfa engine though, even though it was only 50bhp more than the Panda, it felt a lot quicker and the comfort of the momo leather combined with the ride comfort is something i do miss...

Getting only 31mpg from a 1.4

31mpg!!!....I get at least 37mpg and I drive it pretty hard....40+ if I'm being good....

getting only 8k from front tyres down to race car camber settings used on the road.

This combined with your mpg makes me wonder how and where you drive it....? I'm on my 3rd set of fronts now and I've done 31K in two and a half years....(16K from the F1s and 15K from the Toyos)

No matter what EQ i use on the stereo, it sounds thin and tinny.

I think it's a far better set-up than what it gets credit for....With adjustment it can sound really good (and I'm used to a very good home-setup so I'm a fussy git!)

:D

I bought a 6mth old car. Had I of had the choice then I'd have gone for the stereo upgrade but I don't think it makes much difference.

The car is undoubtedly heavilly compromised but it can be a huge amount of fun for not a lot of money! My only concern is its longevity as it does have a cheaper feel than 'even' my '96 Fiesta it replaced.

For the money there isn't much else out there that compares...

The 100hp ticks all the right boxes for me, even if it does have its foibles.

If i'm honest, i think i was a bit over critical of the car, i do think its great, i like taking it for a thrash and we have some great windy B-roads where i live where it continually embarrasses cars with much bigger engines!

I also slightly over exaggerated my mpg figure. If im caning it all the time, i get about 34, the highest i've had on a 300 mile motorway trip was 48, which is pretty good.

I still think the ride is very compromised for UK roads, but it does handle really well.

I really am puzzled about the tyres, i haven't hit anything, there is no kerbed alloys, and i am quite a careful driver.

I'm still not keen on the sound system. I also have a really nice home setup, and im a musician by trade. I wish the subwoofer kit could be retro fitted to give the bottom end a bit more oomph!

Actually the stereo upgrade makes a significant difference. I owned a (absolutely awful) MJ before with the stock stereo I got an upgraded stereo on my 100hp, massive diffeence, well worth having. Where the stock system lacks bass the upgraded one can vibrate the doors. Also the sound seems to separate better with the additional tweeters.

I do agree about the cheap feel of the car, though obviously it's built to a price. My real gripe is how badly the dash rattles. Been back to the dealer 4 times now. They sorted out the original rattle, but now it has a far worse one. Fortunately I'll be able to spend a bit more money on my next car in a couple of years time. (y)

No car is perfect, there are always going to be small gripes that emerge living with a car day in day out, no matter how much you spend.

For me the good bits about the 100hp are the ones high on my priority list whereas the bad bits I really couldn't give two hoots about.

Looking at the love/hate lists above, would you rather have the reverse?

Pros (y):
Very comfy, like my favourite armchair
Good fuel economy
Tyres last for ages
Good stereo
Excellent wiper delay adjustability

Cons (n):
A bit underpowered
Slow
Dull to drive
Handles like bambi on ice

I'm sure that there are cars out there that this list would apply to but I wouldn't like to hazard a guess...
