can anyone who is more knowledgable help me?

my newly acuired 155 has failed her MOT spectacularly on her emissions this morning, readings are as follows

CO max 0.30% - actual 3.63% (run 1)
3.52% (run 2)
HC max 200ppm actual 211 ppm (run 1)
259 ppm (run 2)
Lambda 0.97-1.03 0.90
0.91

and on idle
co max 0.50% actual 5.10%

now, although i can take a car apart and rebuild it etc, other than replacing service items (just got a mate with a garage to order new plugs (8), oil filter, oil, air filter and lambda) other than the cat what else could it be thats making the results so god damn awful?

cheers

Blowing exhaust would be your next bet, check manifold Gasket, all joins on system.... a good oil and oilfilter service will help

If heaven is a place on earth why is it such a hell of a place to live.

cheers mate.

the exhaust is sweet (plus it wont pass with a blow anyway), but i have also just ordered a coolant temp sensor for her aswell, thinking about it it would appear shes running in cold mode continiously given the high readings, so wil try that one too

here was me hoping the old girl would waft through and minimise the damage to my wallet as it was seriously abused on wed... no such luck :(

errmmm... rag the tits off it... drive to the MOT in 2nd gear at 60mph!!!

Put the fuel additive in that helps with the exhaust emmisions....

Failing that, go to a different garage that has a micro parked round the corner for such "problem cars" ;)

Tommy, give me some credit mate ;)

the other things ive sused out that could be a problem are the maf and posibly the coilpack... so that will be fun and cheap :(

thermostate wouldnt be a bad thing change, especially consider hotter weather on the way.

but think you cat might now be empty :)

lambda might be wonky, and/or the cat. Not so cheap for a cat unfortunately. All the servicing sounds like a good idea. Certainly, new sparks will help primarily with the HC figure, and new cat/lamba will help with the CO figure.
