I bought a cheap alarm and I'm trying to fit it on a very late Cinq Sporting (one of the ones with Sei type stalks and handbrake).

I've got the alarm fitting notes posted by Custard here and was trying to connect the wires for the indicators to the alarm unit. The notes say "blue wire located at steering column and/or blue wire with black rings located at steering column". OK, I find the wires coming out of the connector block for the stalks. Access is a bit tight, so I pull the connector and, in a rare moment of extra caution, test the indicators. They work! They work with no apparent connection to the stalks. At this point I reach for my multimeter only to find that it's kaput.

So, I put everything back together, drive home and ask you folk.

Any ideas, peeps? Do you think I should follow the Sei alarm notes, wherin it states: connect to the light blue and green cables located on the back of the blinker button (hazard light) on a white 8 pin connector.?

if you have the later cinq wheel(so often called the sei set up ;)
then i would expect it to use the wiring as listed for the cinq tbh

Sorry, Custard, do you mean you think it'll have the Cinq or Sei wiring?

I've got the Cobra instructions for the Sei which go "connect to the 0.75mm Light blue and light blue/black wires at positions nr1 and nr.2 of the 20 way white connector located under the driver's floor trim" and the Meta ones "Connect to the light blue and green cables located on the back of the blinker button (hazard light) on a white 8 pin connector".

Ah well, no work on it tonight, I'll have a clean up, find the other meter, put my Cleckos and tungstens in the pretty boxes wot I have bought for them, and do something other than crawl under/inside little cars!

Bummer! I'm getting nowhere on this.:bang:

Tonight progress was confined to discovering the feed for the front indicators, and a blue/black wire that appears to do absolutely nothing.

I guess that if I tapped into the front indicators, that's do the job, but it seems like a really stupid way of doing it. I'm still puzzled as to why removing the entire connector from the indicator stalk does nothing: they still work!

Ah well, I've the Sei manual on disk and I'm downloading the Cinq one (in Italian). If they don't give me any ideas I'm going to puty it out for someone else to do.

Sodding manuals, sodding alarms, sodding cars............... (n)
