Alarm not working

Just got a Fiat barvo 1.8 HLX and the button on the key to open/close the doors and enable/disable the alarm has stopped working
Can anyone give me any hints as to why this may be?

Flat battery?

Mine once stopped working - I toki it apart and put it together again and it worked fine after that. Poor connections????

Bought new batteries but that made no difference.
Where is the actual receiver for the signal from the key?

Just got it to work again, I think the reciever is in the roof light box? as when i took it off and put it back on again it started to work. Could it have been a loose wire or something?
