I have a 97 barchetta with a permanent air bag light illuminated. I have only had the car for a while and my local garage could not diagnose the fault (computer issues). A common fault seems to be the connectors under the seats getting damaged, or damaging the wires, so I am about to remove the yellow connectors from the air bag wiring and replace with bullets. i checked the wires and see that the colors are different to the manual, and that the wire colors swap through the connector.
I'll explain:
On the drivers side the yellow wire has a blue tape round it comes through the floor with a brown/white wire (on the left) blue (on the right) in it, connecting through the connector to a blue wire (on the left) and a brown wire (on the right). the other wire has 2 plain black wires connecting to 2 plain black wires.
On the passengers side the yellow wire has a brown wire (on the left) blue (on the right) in it, connecting through the connector to a blue wire (on the left) and a brown wire (on the right).
Is this the normal layout? Are the seat belt per-tensioners polarity sensitive?
Also, can I reset the airbag light myself? I did a search and someone mentioned a DIY reset method but no further.
Oh, I can't get the car to a garage till March.....
Thanks
Tom
