I tried to get my aribag warning light reset last week, and the garage told me that they could not clear the code from the ECU as the ECU was faulty. They would have to send it off to be properly diagnosed and repaired. They told me it would take 3 days and they did not know what the cost would be other than £65 for it to be retested by the ECU repair place, plus any work they did to repair the "fault."

I am not sure whether to trust the garage or not as the warning light only came on after a fuse blew and I drove the car before replacing it.

Any one got any ideas on what i should do ????

Thanks

T14086,

I have a Marea, but posted in Bravo as well, because I expected more people to see it in there.

I don't want to ignore the light as the airbag will not work in an accident so I want to get it sorted but do not want to get ripped off.

Does a faulty ECU sound a bit far fetched ?

Hey! Um i would probably get that checked whatever it costs cuz my airbag light was on too and the jackass engineer told me it was just a faulty light and that was it! I had a really bad accident 2 months later and the airbag didn't open! When i told the maintenance what the other engineer had told me they just completely covered that up and said it was MY fault for not asking for it to be checked thoroughly! Happened a year ago and still boils my blood everytime i think about it! I guess it doesn't sound too far fetched! Better safe than sorry i think!

 ......thanks for the post Eissa,I tried to explain this to someone today but they thought I was just trying to get extra work/money from them!

i sometimes think fiat designed the oversensitivity of the airbag system to get extra work/money. it couldnt be a mistake on so many models for so many years.

How many cars these days put the airbag light on when you change the seat position? Answer is loads. But a quick soldering of the pre-tensioners on the seat stalk sorts the problem, but you still need to have the light reset which really bugs me.

i agree, my escort had the same problem, and i cant even begin to remember how many ford's i've had to remove the airbag light bulb on. and citroens. its shocking!
