hey all!

my airbag warning light came on last week and stayed on since yesterday. it was on for about 7 days none stop. yesterday i took it to a mechanic who lives on my street..

he plugged his diagnostic hand held code reading machine intot he car but the punto ould nto be found on his machine. we both tought this was very strange.

he says every car since 2001 has to be on the same "wavelength" so that any diagnostic code reader will work? he thought it may be a fuse...

so this mornign i took out every ruse and simply poushed them all back in.

whent back to the car turned the key and the warning light has dispaeared!!!! how strange? i have not been back to put it on his machine.

has anyone else heard of anything like that?

same wavelength:rolleyes:..........tell him to buy £3k's worth of fiat equipment + subscriptions.

is it not true that every car since 2001 use the same diagnstic "standard"?

please correct me if im wrong!

European OnBoard Diagnostics are standard but it only gives a limited set of information.

You need the Fiat specific "Examiner" kit for detailed analysis - only Fiat dealerships and some well stocked independents have this - as T14086 says it ain't cheap!

There's a common 16-pin diagnostic plug and a common table of diagnostic codes, but many manufacturers have codes specific to their vehicles to clarify faults, and without updating for new ECU's and systems, a code reader soon becomes useless for modern cars.

The GP also has a higher speed CAN interface than older EOBD Fiats which required a specific adaptor cable to slow it down for use with Examiner.
