It's a case of 'up and under'! Jack the front of the car up and use axle stands (or ramps). Remove the engine undertray (if fitted). The air filter box is mounted nearside front. Flip the two wire clips and hinge open the box to reveal the filter. In the well-worn words of Haynes manuals, 'fitting is the reverse of removal'.
Not sure about the 1.6, but if it's anything like the Abarth you do it from underneath the car.
You jack the front of the car up, get on your back and remove the protective plate below the engine.
To open the air box, you simply unclip the bottom of it. Then you replace the air filter, clip the bottom of the air box back on, fit the protective plate again... and Bob's your uncle.
It's a very easy job in a very precarious position.
