Just bought 2008 1,9 multijet and the AC doesn't work. Is there a fuse in the box or could it just be no pressure?

I had to buy a new condenser (in front of radiator) and get it re-charged by Halford's and all is still working.

Bliss in the hot weather.

They are prone to the aluminium condenser suffering small holes from stones or just getting old.

Thanks for the good advice - noticed small greenish oily drip on the undertray yesterday - suspect it's a leak now and 'Andoo's' tip about condenser holes seems nearest? Oh dear more money, I feel a specialist visit coming on!

I got my condenser from Euro Car Parts for 140 quid (with VAT). Probably get them cheaper, but I didn't have to wait as it was in stock.

Ebay is good for bargains, but majority "Don't deliver to Scottish Highlands" because the courier firms are just ripping people off

Any time I see the legend "Doesn't deliver...etc" I ask if I can send my own courier?

And if I win, I send Royal Mail to collect. NEVER had a problem with Royal Mail. After all, if they are good enough for the Queen, they're good enough for me ;)

Oh, and fitting is a breeze ;)

Undo the front bumper: screws hold the wheel arch liners on, just undo the front ones and fold it enough to get into the torx bolts that hold the bumper to the front wing. There are two each side. Then down the bottom you will see a small bracket with one torx bolt each side.

Unplug the fog lamps.

Up top, there are 4 torx bolts holding the grille on, undo them and you will reveal a further four torx bolts, undo them and the bumper should come away. You may have to fiddle a bit near the headlamps, but no biggy.

The condenser is held in place with plastic brackets, the bolts are 8mm self tappers, loosen and twist the brackets out of the way.

Then there are two 10mm nuts holding the pipework in place. fiddle about to remove the pipes & "O" rings.

When re-building, use a smear of Vaseline on the "O" rings to help ease them back in place without pinching them.

Once she's all back together, get the system pressure tested before agreeing to a re-gas. Halfords also do this.

Mine's still belting out cold air :D

Yes once you have removed the bumper it is an easy task to replace the condenser mine rotted after 7 years use and cost £75 plus £50 to have the system evacuated and refilled with dye/lub/gas.

Just looking at this thread as my aircon leaks like a sieve.
Had everything off and the condenser looks like someone has hit it with a lump hammer
Not only is the condenser bent in to the rad but there's also a dent in it.

As to prices, I've just had a mooch on Euro...
EIS condenser - £43.63 inc
Denso - £62.71 inc.

Is it worth paying the extra £20 ?
