Hi all.
Anyone had this strange thing happening with their air con..................
Mine won't operate if the outside temperature is below 6C!!!! Anything above that....away it goes as normal?????????????

Surely this should not be dependant on outside air temp as I thought it would operate whatever.
Any info on what's happening would be appreciated.
Thank you. :)

hi mate..................
why would you want 'air con ' at below 6'C?
cold enough then eh?
mine will not even give 'max defrost at only 1 bar of temp.
regards
don

I wanted to use the refrigerating effect to "dry" the air when defrosting during these really cold mornings. So wondered if it actually worked when using climate control to heat the windscreen etc (ie Max defrost)

hi mate,
as said my 'max defrost will not come on with only 1 bar of temp, but you could dial the 'heat' to low and use the 'fast' fan speed.:)
there was another post about 'max defrost' not coming on at low temps a few months back.

Hey thanks for that. I've just read the older posts and apparently the air con doesn't operate if the outside temp is lower than 5C so that ties in with what happens with mine. Phew I thought it was bust lol
Anyway, thanks again.

hi mate,
seems bit funny though eh...................
thats when we need 'max defrost'......below 5c..... perhaps its set for when it rains 'in italy' to clear 'steam' from screen :D

mmmmmm.......sounds strange, one point of having a/c is for rapid demisting of the windscreen regardless of outside temp.
Hence when you turn it to max defrost the ac comes on.

It's hardly strange. If the system continued to function at low temps it'd damage the system. Before coming into your as heater air with A/C on the air is conditioned. This air is super chilled, and then if heat is on, its re-heated and enters cabin as hot conditioned air.

Now think what happen if you tried to cool air which was already at say -4C and already very cold? They system would freeze, resulting in damage to the compressor and other components ;)

Jon.
