Help needed! I have bought a new leather steering wheel and want to get the old one off. Do you think I can get the airbag to release!!!! I have tried poking a screw driver in the holes either side but nothing seems to be releasing. I have been at it for hours and no further on. Anyone have any advice on angle or the perfect tool?

In case you haven't, I would advise disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes before doing anything with the airbags, you may be lucky, but if they are triggered whilst your head is over it it can and has killed!!!
Some are a pain to release as the spring ring is quite tight holding them in place, usually it is a case if a small bent screwdriver or similar to release them, I generally have a torch and a small dentists mirror:)

Where are you looking with the torch and dentist mirror?

Thanks, I have seen this one. As far as I can tell I am doing exactly the same but mine just isn’t popping off.
If you get close up to the hole with a torch and maybe the mirror , it should be a case of working out which direction to push the retaining spring clip away to release air bag.
I had to do the one on daughters Golf the other day and that was a hard one also.
It is difficult using the mirror but from memory you have to use screwdriver in the opposite direction to what you think to prise off the lug.

The trouble with a flat bladed screwdriver is you are going to have to press on a circular section spring so you have to make sure the blade is orientated correctly otherwise it just slips off the spring. Use hex keys or just a plain round bar - see my pictures in the other thread.
