Re: cruise control
Hello Everyone
There seems to be some issues with the colour coding of the various wires for the cruise control. Whilst I've made every effort to get it right, I can only go on what I'm told! So, whilst my Stilo is in the workshop, I've spent this morning stripping down my mums 2002 1.6 Dynamic (which is actually pre-wired luckily!) to shed some light on the situation.
Now, Page 3 of the guide (in the "Stilo Guides" section) shows the D4B connector coming from the engine node. Some stilo's have just this connector; these are semi-predisposed. Some (like my 03 and mum's) are fully predisposed, and have another brown connector plugged into this leading to the steering cowl, where the H7 connector is located, to be plugged into the cruise control stalk. On semi-predisposed vehicles, you have to make this section yourself.
Now, wiring diagrams. Everyone seems to be obsessed with colour codes and not pin locations, so I am giving the following AS A GUIDE FOR A 1.6 2002, CHASSIS NUMBER 146979!!! I cannot guarntee anything else. Now, i'm 95% sure FIAT wouldn't have changed it but unfortunately I do not control what they do in Italy!!!
Right, this is for the people who's Stilo is semi-predisposed only! Page 5 of the guide funnily enough is correct, but I'll restate it and try (if it is humanly possible) to make it easier to understand:
- D4B, the big brown connector, is under the fusebox in the battery compartment. There are 4 wires. They are all on the same row, and they start on the second pin in. This is A02. So A02, A03, A04 and A05 will have wires in. There may be other wires but these are the only 4 you need worry about!
Pin A02 is GREEN
Pin A03 is predominantly WHITE with an ORANGE Band
Pin A04 is predominantly YELLOW with an ORANGE Band
Pin A05 is VIOLET
This really doesn't matter; at the end of the day, the wires are there and the configuration doesn't change in any vehicle (that fact is taken from eLearn, the FIAT technical CD!)
- This would now plug into another Brown connector, where all colours are the same, except:
Pin A04 now becomes predominantly ORANGE with a BLACK Band.
Again, this doesn't matter, as if the car is only semi-predisposed, none of this will be here and you'll have to make your own!
- Connector H7, the white cruise control connector, is what is up at the steering column. This plugs into the above mentioned, and also has a +12V feed coming in, as this is what is switched to send the 'ON' pulse to the engine node. So, the configuration for this is as follows (see pic below):

Pin 1 = GREEN, i.e. this connects to A02
Pin 2 = BLUE, i.e. this is your +12V you need to acquire (and protect with a 7.5A inline fuse; i would recommend a clean +12V, not a piggy-backed one)
Pin 3 IS NOT CONNECTED
Pin 4 = VIOLET, i.e. this connects to A05
Pin 5 = ORANGE / BLACK, i.e. this connects to A04
Pin 6 = WHITE / ORANGE, i.e. this connects to A03
Again, as per my guide!!
All that's left is the colour coding for the actual stalk itself. I'm sure you're tired of me saying this but IT REALLY DOESNT MATTER; as long as you're stalk has the original connector still on (FIAT, ALFA stalks use EXACTLY the same connector), just see which of the 6 pins isn't connected; that'll be Pin 3. Then there will be 2 wires to one side of Pin 3 and 3 to the other side. I'm sure I don't need to tell you the rest . . .
All the colours listed on my guide agree precisely with my 03 1.8 Dynamic and my mum's 02 1.6 Dynamic.
If anyone is still stuck, please PM me, although I don't see how much simpler I can get it! :bang:
