Hi all, i have a stilo 1.2 {aircon) 2003, i've got 2 problems,

1} how do i replace the outside air temperature sensor as it keeps coming up with danger of ice and its driving me nuts.

2} My fuel gage playing up, when i put petrol in it and use the range to empty, the miles go UP insted of down. Is that a fuse? or do i need a new dashboard as i was told it could be broken clusters but he didnt look at it???

HELP PLEASE:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Hello , the outside temp sensor is located in drivers side (uk) of the wing mirror if you look on the underside of the mirror housing you will see a blob of plastic and will require removal of glass to access do not know of the complete remove /replace procedure as not a job I have had to do ..although you could try looking at the round large electrical door connector located towards bottom of the door hinges may just require clean up remove replace a few times this connector and if possible sparay with some electrical contact cleaner to see if this helps your temp sensor problem first.

The fuel range till emplty may well not be an issue as it varies depending on the style of driving if you floor it for a mile or so it will think that is how you ar driving and calculate a poorer mpg so you will have less range, then if you decided to toodle along taking it easy on the right foot pedal you will be using less fuel and therefore the car computer system will calculate a greater range till empty so this range till empty will decrease and increase in value depending on how you are driving the car

I had a weird range/mpg anomaly a couple times on my drive home from Silverstone to Blackburn. On 2 different trips, I left the shop with about 1/2 tank, and showed a distance to empty of around 250 miles. At about the same point on motorway, between Coventry and Birmingham, my mpg would go ridiculously high, and my range would be about 800 miles to empty, then it would come back down to normal after 15 or 20 miles. The fuel gauge was still accurate, but the trip computer winged out those times. It hasn't done it since those 2 trips, but was really odd.

hi thank will have a look at mirror tomorrow, and no im not a mad driver lol and dont floor it the gage is right its just the miles till empty that goes up if that makes sense

you did write in the start of your post that when you put petrol in and use the range to empty that it goes up, which could be down to you have just put extra fuel in so will have a greater range now available than before the extra fuel you put in and also down to driving style mine goes up and down all the time depending how much fuel is in the tank and my style of driving in fact when pennies are tight it is good to see the range increase..I would keep an eye on it for a while and so long as the numbers are not silly see how it goes and if needs be keep a note for future reference

lol yes i did, try this say i have half a tank and it say for argument sake it 250miles, i drive along for 10miles should read, 240 or given how someone people drive you will use more fuel, i know that, but mine will go up and read 270 for example and with every mile go up, dont think i explained it properly sorry....

have you noted what it calculates for range when fluel warning appears for low fuel as would give better idea it is functioning correctly as there are many variables to take in to account as yes mine also goes up quite an amount if there is more fuel in the tank as the there are larger figures to calculate, you could go up a long hill , be in traffic or higher gear and then suddenly cruise nicely along and it will go up a fair amount, if you are concerned you could try disconnecting car battery for half an hour and reset car computers by doing so,, though inital thoughts suggest it is doing what it does depending on the various calculations taking place to display the figure it does.

That's sort of normal, imo. The range will increase for a while when you get on a motorway or are away from traffic and cruising at a decent speed. When I head down to Silverstone or hhead back home, the range to empty is usually going up for the first 10 or 20 miles of the drive, then you'll get to a point where it settles and starts to slowly decrease.

Perfectly normal as its calculating your range on current driving style and conditions, not that of 20 miles ago (y)

Just like how if you rag it it'll suddenly plummet.

Regarding the outside temperature sensor, I find that when the mirror has been blasted with a pressure washer, it works normal again for a few weeks until the car becomes dirty. :confused:
