Twice this week I have had the hair-raising (not got much!) experience of the throttle stuck wide open.

First impression was pedal stuck under the carpet. I have a had a good look in the footwell and don't believe that it can be the case.

It's a 2008 1.4 6 valve.

Anyone encountered and fixed this?

Thanks, B.E

have you checked the sump for overfill or diesel, it could be running on sump contents,
check it as you do not want a runaway engine.

Agree about the throttle body. Check that the butterfly isn't getting stuck or the cable being sticky. I am assuming these still have a manual accelerator cable rather than an electronic throttle pot ? Also check any return springs on either the throttle pedal or the butterfly are not broken.

Thanks for all the replies.

Done another 300 miles without a problem. The accelerator pedal was physically stuck down when the problem occurred. We are keeping an eye on it.

It may be that the car was standing on the dealer's forecourt (we have only had it for a few weeks) for several weeks and something needed to be operated to free it up.

Fingers crossed!

Have the same problem only my Doblo is 1.9 diesel. Again not caused as far as I can see by carpet snagging the pedal. Note comments about diesel in sump causing run-away engine but rule that out as on each of 3 remote times it occurred, simply switched off the key and engine then stopped ok.
Tomorrow a local garage will take a look but as it occurs sporadically, they might not isolate the cause.
Any suggestions?

It's nearly 12 months since I started this thread. It has not happened since, so I am hoping it never happens again.

Maybe it was due to not being used whilst it was on the dealer's forecourt.

Thanks Brummy but dealer forecourt was left 9 months ago and problem is recent!
Can't see any throttle linkages upon lifting bonnet so are they hidden underneath or just none existant and fly-by-wire?
