Hi All,

I have a 1971 Fiat 500L 499cc. I need to replace the accelerator & choke cables. Can anyone tell me if these run underneath the car or inside under the carpets.

Many thanks.

Both the accelerator and choke cable run down the centre tunnel , The easiest way to get at them is to remove one of the seats, undo the little panel that the choke (and starter lever) mounts onto, as well as the little panel (sort-of) under the front of the rear seat---the panel with the heater lever on it; that will give you access to the choke cable inner. To get at the throttle cable you will need to remove the section at the front of the centre tunnel---the section that has the 2 outlets for the hot-air up to the windscreen--that will give you access to the front of the throttle cable. The reason that i suggest that you remove a front seat is that by doing that you can access the panels that you have to remove much more easily.

Thanks for your help & suggestions. Got them both changed. The only difficult bit was a clamp screwed to the underside floor above the gearbox which held both outer cables in place. Looks like a 7mm socket needed to removed the bolt but it was partly blocked by the gearbox. I managed to open it just enough to slide out the choke cable then slide the new one back through. The accelerator outer cable has crimped on fittings at each end & wouldn't slide through the clamp so I only managed to replace the inner cable.
