hey guys am quite new to here browsed for a while but never posted
so i'm chris, my abs light was intermittent a few months back but then decided to stay on, fes said it was the front right wheel sensor, had an attempt to remove it today, got the screw out but wouldnt budge, the cable and plug looks fine but the loom doesnt look to good:bang: i'll post a pic of the loom plug and any advice would be aprecciated
should the sensor pop off once the screw/bolt has been removed?

On other cars I've had to resort to tapping wheel speed sensors out with a hammer or levering them out with a screw driver. Either way, there is a good chance of destroying the sensor so I'd only do it if you have a new one ready to go on.

Given that your loom plug doesn't look a1, it might not be the wheel speed sensor that's the problem. The issue is that the loom could be expensive.

If it were me, I'd replace the wheel speed sensor first (they are usually quite cheap); if that fixes it then great, get to maplins and by some non-conducting electrical grease and coat the loom plug before its too late. If the sensor is not the problem then the loom looks like it might be to blame. Clean the corroded contacts as best you can and grease as above. Failing that a new loom is the official fix but costs mega money, I'd see if an auto electrician could fit a new (or good secondhand as I doubt the plug is available new) plug for a sensible price. He might even be able to replace the pins in the existing plug depending on its design.

Finally got my abs diagnosed and the drivers front abs sensor changed but the problems still there. Can it be the pump or the loom that's at fault. Both front sensors are working fine but the machine still says its the drivers side sensor that's not working. Any advice would be great

So the diagnostic says faulty sensor are you're saying its fine on what basis? Because its new (which is fair enough) or do you have some other info?

If sensor ok then I'd suspect wiring. The big plug into the abs module (in the engine bay) can corrode, check that and the connection down in the wheel arch.
 
Just noticed your pic of the loom plug. Surely that's your problem there. I think you are perhaps thinking the diagnostic is cleverer than it is. It can't tell the difference between getting no signal because the sensor is broken and getting no signal because the wiring to the sensor is broken.

Clean the corrosion of as best you can, if that doesn't work them call a good auto electrician to patch it up. A new loom from fiat is serious money.

The mechanic checked both front connectors with a volt meter and both were fine. I've cleaned the plug since that pic but one of the pin holes on the plug must be rusty but can't see. The mechanic also said to try buying a second hand unit with the plug and some of the wire. Also I Tried connecting it to fes and the pump makes a noise and ebd failure comes on the dash. That was a few months back thou. Should I go to fiat or try an auto electrician first?

Well after a £224 bill including the first £49 diagnostic fee. The wire connecting the abs sensor to the ecu melted behind the black panel just under the windscreen. 3 hours labour to fix a tiny peice off wire. Hopefully that's the last major repair I need fiat to do. The mechanic said this is a common fault too.

Mine did exactly the same but managed to fix it myself for nothing

Thanks I will have a look this weekend where about on the disks will the connection be? Also is there any diagrams I could get that would help. I know that you can't get a Haynes manual for the grande.

So my abs light started coming back on again I bought the connectors to connect to the abs. Fiat gave me 3 months gaurentee and it's creeping up by the day. I keep getting this message and the scan dtc is showing latency too high how do I fix it. Any hemp would be great cheers . ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1378417392.581472.jpg
