I thought he was still saying that it's good because it helps keep jobs which isn't a valid reason and trying examples of why progress is a good thing.

I see your point and my example wasn't the best but it was progress which may have initiially lost jobs (due to higher efficient of the mass production line).

Do we moan at the person who created conveying systems for factories? I know my Uno and your punto has a F.I.R.E engine, i.e. robotically put together (right?), should we have a go at the designer for losing some jobs or should we be happy our engines are good and cheap?

It's progress, sadly that progress took so long because the people in control of this country had a vested interested, yesterday the house of commons stuck two fingers up to that and implemented what they are supposed to do.

Which in turn could lead to more horses being bread due to an increase in demand for dog food and hence an increased global price, thus this doesn't have to be a bad thing, every cloud has a silver lining and all that, it's just these country folk need entrepreneurs to help them.

paul, im sorry to say this but i disagree ... but only on one point , and thats fishing, i do think its inhumane, especially sport fishing, no matter what nirvana say, fish do have feelings and a large amount nerve endings in the lip/mouth area, scientific studies show that they DO feel pain, but anyhow, this is digressing from the topic, on the subject of fox hunting, thank god it's finally got to this, and it will be made illegal soon. personally i dont think there is any need to cull foxes or any other so called vermin.. live and let live, its only humans encroaching on natural wildlife thats causing problems, as for the threat to livestock - look after it better, and there wont be a problem.
anyway, thats my rant over for the time being.. although be warned all you pro's.. theres much more to come

Yeah, they eat livestock but the way in which they are hunted is diabolical and I'm just angry that it's taken so long for something to get done about it.

The folk that do it regardless of class are evil in my view and anyone who gets enjoyment from it should be locked up somewhere very secure.

not only is fishing cruel its a bloody waste of time sitting there all day catching fish them putting it back, makes us who spend all thier life on ff seem interesting paul unless you only eat free range chickens there life is worse that the fox that gets hunted some of them cant even stand up because there legs are so week

Have been away a few days so haven't contributed much to this debate so far. On the matter of fox hunting well my views on that have changed a lot - as most of you will know I'm not an animal lover and see us as being naturally 'top of the heap', therefore I believe hunting should go on. I do however think licensing was a good thing to improve conditions for dogs, workers, horses and to ensure no more cruelty than necessary was meted out to the foxes.

I also think it's a sad day for democracy when Tony B-liar rides roughshod over our parliamentary system and refuses to compromise. It's the beginning of totalinarianism and end of democracy as we (barely) know it and I think we should be very very worried by this development (again).
