both my recent fiats have come with abarth badges already stuck on

the sei had 3 badges on it, but i made sure i left them of the skirts, this was possible cause they was replicas and didnt have the indent

the punto got proper abarth skirts on, so need the badges on cause it look stupid otherwise cause of the indent

your very right, abarth models now are just fiats highest spec model with diferent styling stuff and engine is left alone, it other way around years ago
Left alone from what  The Stilo Abarth is a 2.4L inline 5 so I'd hardly say it's a standard enging compared to the others in the range.

I don't see the problem in adding Abarth badges if a car is identically upgraded to the Abarth spec, but otherwise, I think it should be avoided. No option for that vote is there. hehe
I agree since Fiat only seem to see the Abarth logo from a cosmetic marketing point of view (ie. bodykits and keyrings) and not as the fast version of a particular model after all theres no performance difference between a Punto HGT and a Punto Abarth HGT.
If only Fiat would use the Abarth logo like Honda do with the Type R .

I think what hes trying to get at is its still fiats own engine not actually an abarth modifed one. As 1986uno45 said Fiat bought the name, so they use it on there cars

If im correct the 2.4 is the 2.0 from the bravo HGT bored out. Also in other countries the abarth is known as the GT as i found out from my local fiat dealer when trying to get a wing mirror for mine. The abarth is just a spec level. Like the top spec saab is the Aero and to have the Aero you have to have the most powerful engine.....

I've got 2 Abarth badges (1 under each indicator) and an internal rear window crest sticker. TBH, I'm not bothered if people know it's not an Abarth. It's only like Vauxhall owners putting "Irmscher" badges on their cars when they have no Irmscher parts on them. The reason I've stuck them on is to make people think "What the **** is that?!" You'd be suprised how many peeps still haven't seen a Stilo.

This is a subject where I think only a few members on here will have the knowledge of Abarth other than with Fiat, i don't claim to know much but I know a little more.

The last Fiat to be built on the now defunct Abarth production line was the Strada/Ritmo 130TC Abarth which has been mentioned already, the last Abarth vehicle as such was the Auto Bianchi A110 Abarth.

Carlo Abarth him self started by buying Fiats and tuning them, much like many people on here do when they buy cars only he made a name for himself by successfully racing them, which of course was good for Fiat as it raised the publics opinion of there cars. Eventually Abarth was purchased by Fiat and brought inhouse working on the rally cars such as the Fiat Spider Abarth, 131 Abarth etc it was really the performance arm much like the M division is with BMW.

What Abarth did after the Fiat rally cars, and indeed during the Fiat rally cars was work on the Lancia rally cars as well i.e. the Fulvia rally, and indeed Lancia road cars as they wanted to move the brand to be the racing arm only and as Lancia was regarded as a more upmarket and preformance product, it was a more obvious choice for it to be used, the Lancia name was used as the Stratos as it was built just to race, the raod car was only built for homologation, therefore it coudl have easily been a Fiat, as could have the 037. It was Abarth who built and preparred the Lancia 037, the Delta S4, the integrale rally cars and to this day you can buy genuine Abarth tuning parts for integrale's from Astra Racing in Italy http://www.astrashop.it/ who will do cams, carbon fibre brakes (yes lancia used them over 10 years ago in rallying, its not a new thing) carbon fibre drive shafts, titanium prop shafts etc etc etc therefore you could argue that the last genuine car Abarth had a hand in developing was the integrale and not a Fiat.

I believe that Fiat have themselves devalued the badge by badge engineering cars with extras rather than actually making the cars a stand alone model if you follow my thoughts, and therefore in the essence of the man himself, Carlo Abarth, the cars which deserve the right to carry the name of his famous company are tuned cars, not mass produced standard cars and therefore anyone who has achieved performance inprovements to their own car have every right to badge it such to show the world as much as anyone who has bought one of Fiats Abarth badged models.

In the context of this forum i would like to think the likes of Cinqs/Sei's which are turbo charged, or have had engine transplants, or both are probably closest to what Carlo did himslef all those years ago, taking the smallest, slowest car that Fiat offered and making it fast and enjoyable. (and yes I am biased but hey everyone who gives an opinion will be insome way influenced by what they have themselves ;) )

you can spot certain Abarth details that you don't find on normal Stilos.

For example:
1. Rubber Abarth badges instead of thick metal
2. Non-standard positioning of Abarth badges
NOOOOO! Don't say that - people will think mine isn't real!

My thick metal badge got all water damaged so I replaced it with a rubberised one instead (which I actually prefer).

I'm also not sure about the positioning of my Abarth badges on my skirts. I see from a lot of people's images that their abarth badges are placed a lot higher than on mine. Mine are almost at the very bottom - WHY!?

Carlo Abarth etc.

Thanks for a little bit of background history for fellow members on why Fiat have the Abarth badge in their "boot badge portfolio" and why it causes upset to some members when Fiat just stick it on a car because it has a slightly different bodykit.
I'll just stick with my de-badged HGT and let other people spot the differences between it and other puntos.

Very well put Aaron! I totally agree that it is Fiat themselves who have devalued the Abarth name and badge. It is now to Fiat what Ghia is to Ford, just a trim level. A shame really, as Fiat could have used it exclusively for extra special performance versions of their cars. I do wonder why they bought out a tuning company but don't actually let the Abarth engineers do any tuning any more...

Oh, and Stef78. Phonetically it is pronounced 'Arbath', but is actually spelt 'Abarth'!

Its funny you mention AMG as AMG started out as tuners who offered upgrades to Mercedes cars, but as Germany have a much tougher process of standards than many other countries the manufacturers still honoured warranties and eventually AMG were brought in-house (see parallels with Abarth). Alpina still do stuff for BMWs as do Brabus for Merc, RUF do Porsche, but as are listed as a car manufacturer so re=badge the cars as there own.

If I saw anyone with an "Arbath" badge on a car I would wonder what it is ;)

Interesting read there, didn't know that!
Cheers guys, as I said I don't know that much just a little bit from reading books on Lancia and in particular the integrale where Abarth are tantamount to its very existence as it was always built to meet the needs of the rallying team, the road cars where only built to meet homologation demands.

true, even Ghia were an exclusive design house in Italy much like Pininfarina, designing one off coach built cars for the wealthy, and it was they who designed the original Batmobile which many of us would have had as kids with the firing little red plastic things out the back, tho it was conceived as a future concept car, the TV studios bought it and converted it.

It really should be the Fiat vertion of the RS badge on Ford, stand alone models offering perfomance increases in limited numbers which is what Ford are doing with the RS badge which itself fell foul a little after the acceptable RS turbo (models though even that is a bone of contention as its accepted the Serra Cosworth RS500 was the last real RS with competition value) through to the dull Fiesta RS 1800 and Escort RS 2000 of the 90's.
