just so i know, something like these components

and then this amp
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8779.html
and i'm on the right track?

Yeah not bad but i would be looking into using at least 200w RMS in that budget. Its not all about using all of that power but for SQ you really aught to be using a good gain pot so as to not work the speakers and amp very hard therefore less distortion.

Also i think that it would be beneficial to be using Active X-overs (Before Amplification) rather than Passive X-overs (after amplification). So you would actually be using 4 channels. 2 for the mid woofers and 2 for the tweeters.
I dont think something like below would be out of your reach although personally i wouldnt want such a low power but Genesis dont half put it down well.

Edit Just to put it into perspective i am going to be running 60w x2 for Tweeters, 60w x2 for mid range and 200w RMS for Mid bass and i am not building an ear blisteringly loud system.
I am considering doing away with my DLS A7 with the intention for a couple of A5's.

In fact the A7 would be quite well suited to you if you dont mind going second hand and waiting for one to come onto the market, it will put down the sound much better than the one you linked to IMO and has a 5th channel 400w RMS for a sub.

sorry stu you've lost me a little bit there, so i should be using both amp and components at around 200W min? or were you just refering to one? i'm really getting confused by all the numbers now!! arrrgh

its all getting a little confusing now with the little time at work i've had to read up, i'm probably best having a phat read and then coming back when i know what questions to ask lol

thanx for all the help so far guys

Not always, my class win at weekend is proof of that. Active is a lot easier to get wrong than it is to get right!

True but i would much rather use the A7 without Passives than the Diamond with, thats just my personal preference though, and that is how a lot of the guys do it.
Am i right in saying that if you have a miss matched system then you are better off active and leave the passive to those who have the knowledge and budget to perfectly match everything.

An the 200w comment see my edit lol i hope that i made myself clearer.

i'm sorry guy's you've just gone way over my head now

i'm getting confused with things like a 5 channel amp:confused: passive and active x-overs:confused:

lets take it all down a step

when you say i need at least 200 watt do you mean the amp or the components? and i don't understand what difference is between mid range and mid bass

or do i need at least 200w for both?

the components i was looking at Rainbow: SLC265.NG - 16.5cm components come with a crossover will i be getting rid of this?

Ha yeah sorry perhaps i was going a bit too quickly.

A passive X-over filters a signal that is sent from the Amplifier and before the speaker. This will have 3 channels, 1. Input 2. Tweeter output 3. Mid Woofer Output.
For this you have no need to use the filters on the amp/hu so you will just run them with all settings off and send a full range signal to the X-over. The X-over then has An LPF (Low Pass Filter) for the woofers so it wont let any signal past/attenuate say 4khz through. Then a HPF (High Pass Filter) for the tweeter where it will cut off any signal below 4khz.

This is all well and good but it just splits the given power in half and thats the end of it. But obviously you Mid Woofer is likely to be able to take much much more power than your tweeter. So it becomes necessary to run the Mid and the tweeter off of different powers to get a better match.

So an Active filter works before the amplification of the sound so the amp unit can only send a certain frequency range therefore can only output the same freq hz. Things like the DLS and Genny amps have the correct ones built in but this can also be done from external line drivers or even from the HU.

I didnt say you need but i would advice that for a good sound that you use 200w x2 from the amp. So 200w Each side, but that is a matter of opinion. As i said i am using 200w RMS on a passive 2 way set up and it sounds pretty damn good hence why i would advice somebody else to do the same, but your taste may be completely different to mine.

A 5 channel amp like my A7 will run your Mid and tweeters all on their own channel and then you will have one spare channel for a sub so you dont have to have 2 amps taking up space.

Ah i am confusing you with the Mid range and Mid bass. I am going to be doing a 3 way front end so rather than Just having 6.5" Mid woofers and 1" Tweeters i am adding a set of 2.5" mid range that arent woofers as they are not designed to play the same frequency range as Mid bass (under 400 hz) and tweeters.
So they are going to be basically used to bridge the gap that the Mid woofers miss at the Higher end of their spectrum and the Tweeters miss at the lower end of their spectrum.

I hope this helps i am expecting you t hit the thanks button for that essay lol.

no lol

was supposed to ask what you recomended for getting the signal to the amp from my headunit, my sub is currently running on a high power input, but i presume i won't wanna do this when going for SQ?

also i quite like what i've read so far on these http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3981.html

and having trouble with finding some 200watt component sets

I have seen the whole component set in good nick going for around £120 and just the woofers for around £70

RE XXX V1 Subs are good apparently, i almost got some myself but that deal fell through.

Dont forget that at this level you will need to scope the amps etc so set up cleanly you can over power ant speakers. These are top notch

nice one, it sounds awsome on the reviews so its a big contender for me, i want a really warm sub, preferably 12" and happy in a 1.6sft enclosure so i don't have to go through the hassle of building another round box lol, that isn't something i'm wanting to revisit:eek:

Most 12" subs will be fine in that sort of enclosure.

nice one mate, i've now broken it down to these 3, really strange how there all rainbow as i had no problem mixing and matching, these 3 just happen to be my fav's, am i going to get any problems here or am i all good?
