Hi Guys,

I'm new at the forum and wanted to share with you a few troubles I have in my fiat, so maybe some of you can come up with some ideas to solve the issues.

1 - When I switch turning lights on, they work properly but if I press the brake pedal, they turning lights come off, i.e. they switch of the turning lights is still on, but the lights are off until I release the brake pedal. Thus, I cannot have turning lights and brake simultaneously.

2 - The temperature gauge usually shows the temperature not higher than the first quarter of the scale. Since most cars usually work at the middle of the gauge scale which is about 90ºC, I'm wondering if my fiat is working too cold or it is only a gauge issue, or it is a normal thing and can be accepted. What can be the meaning and effects of this?

3 - When I start the car, during the first minutes of operation (hard to say how many because it changes from time to time) the idle is at about 1500 RPM, which is higher than the regular idle condition in most cars. And it is so high, that if I turn in the first gear, and even without pressing the gas pedal, the car is capable of going up slight (or not so slight) slopes.

Any input you might have will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards to you all,

Leo

1. Will be an earth fault. You need to trace the black cables back from the light clusters, unscrew the bolts, scrape everything clean, apply silicone grease (petroleum jelly at a pinch), re-attach. It's free, but there are no short cults -- you've got to put the work in.

2. It could be the temperature sender. But it's more likely that the thermostat is stuck open (car takes ages to warm up, etc.) or even missing. Beware of cheap "white box" thermostats.

3. Could be as simple as an over-tight throttle cable (there should be a fair bit of slack) but more likely an air leak either on one of the hoses running from the throttle body, the bottom throttle body itself, MAP sensor hose or even the servo hose.

1. had the same problem constantly, until i soldered all rear light bulbs to the housing, since then not a single fault

Problem 1 is nothing I could give you an answer to.

Probs 2 and 3 might be the same. I had both and when I renewed my thermostat and temperaturemeter at the same time troubles 2 and 3 were gone.

As you may know the engine is running on an higher rev when it is cold and when the thermostat is not working properly, this situation of hgh revs is maintaining.

Hope to help you with this despite my bad english... :s

pretty much what I thought,

if the throttle cable was tight..the rev's shouldn't drop after 10 / 15 mins..,

replace the thermostat and see what happens.., should be better all round.

I can't recommend soldering the bulbs unless you have a ready supply of rear light clusters..!!,

we DID have hassles with connection of indicator bulbs on our 1.1 SX though..,
age won't help there..!!
