Thank you Stu :)

I know we all think "others will deal with it" but is that next CD/DVD/set of neons REALLY worth more than somebody's life?

This time I don't think others will deal with it and all of us can help to make a difference. 15 million was offered by our government, 15 million? That's less than we give a week to the lottery isn't it? This is a worthy cause....

I thank anybody you does make the effort.
Shock horror something written by Paul I cannot disagree with!!

Come on people hands in pockets they are people like us that need all we can afford to give.

Steve

I would like to thank everybody who has donated from this forum on behalf of the people in the affected areas (including Koarang :) )

Anything, however little, is better than nothing.

Would like to add £15m has been donated by the British public so far - approximately £10m yesterday AFAIK. This support is unprecedented and makes me proud to be British.

That makes the total to be £30m from Britain (the public have no matched the government's offer....lame).

The money, once promised is instantly being used before it actually reaches anybody's bank account thanks to the help of the banks.

There are possible reports a further earthquake could happen causing yet another possible tsunami, the thought of that is just impossible to consider. I didn't realise until now but the water in some places travelled 7km ~4miles(!!!) inland. The wave travels at over 500mph in open water but slows (hence gains in height) at the coast to around 50mph hence the destruction.

To understand the magnitude of this it may help to think that at least a 100 were killed in Somalia, 1000s of miles away in a different continent. Possible deaths also in Kenya.

Again, thanks to everybody on here who has donated and who intends to do so.

im having trouble donating on dec, will see what happens on the red cross one

EDIT - the red cross one worked fine, i also asked my parents to donate, i was happily suprised with there response :)

Gaz, it's due to massive traffic, i think the money is coming in at a rate of £750k/hour.

The situation is getting worse hour by hour, there's no food, no shelter, no fuel and no water. The number already dead ~ 100k+ could be dwalfed by the total possible dead if people don't do what they can. It literally is a "every penny counts" situation.

The British cricket team just donated 15k, Everton has started up a campaign and the Aussie cricket team just gave all their winnings from the last test. Sadly the Sri-Lankan cricket team had to leave early because a numbef of the team has lost family members.

Currently both are having big problems with traffic. You can of course use:
0870 60 60 900 which is currently being advised as the best method.

One major consideration is the fact that land for miles inland has been covered in salt water which has ruined the ground for possibly years to come.

The phone number is a good method for donation. Sadly, my Sister in Law's Brother was on holiday in Thailand he was on a Ferry boat when the wave hit and sunk the ferry, two of his friends are 'gone' (presumed dead obviously) the horrible thing is I suppose they wont find a lot of people's bodies. He survived by the skin of his teeth and is being flown back to UK on Jan 3rd.

Unfortunately, these disasters hit the parts of the world that are least able to cope - so every penny will help even if people can only donate a £.

I an fully aware of that Ghost but at the time it wasn't the case.

Still pretty low IMO but the government does give money year on year to funds t hrough the UN etc. which explains it.

It's still around as much as the US though I think? COnsidering our difference in sizes thats a little odd.

I thought US had originally pledged only £18m, but that may have changed.

The UK government is now the largest single country donator last time I looked :)

And so they should have..
They spend far too much money on weapons and trying to make the world the way they want it.. Its about time they used the money for something far more needed..
Problem is, at a time like this they could easily triple the amount and not miss a penny of it.
Darn Americans.. I am married to one and she feels exactly the same.
